barbel monthly mag . | ||
|
many years ago we had big fish world . really good mag . but it died a death because it wasn't just about carp . now that barbel are so popular , i think
that maybe it would be good idea to contact one of the big carp monthly's and suggest that they create a barbel monthly aswell . might just give it a shot
myself . don't get me wrong , i'm an ex carp angler myself , so i'm not anti carp . it just seem's like the mag publisher's allway's
flood the market with what they see as the easy option instead of creating what the market place is definately missing . neil .

Maybe Barbel Anglers wouldnt like a publication that tells the Angling World about the joys of barbel fishing. I think this and any other barbel sites do a
good job of connecting Barbel Anglers throughout the country with river news, views etc. I know in my case i wouldnt have time to buy and sit down and read a
mag every month. I realise though that i may be a minority

Dan, I agree, I personally think that a mag of this sort would be the thin end of the wedge..... call me selfish, call me a nimby, call me what you like, but
IMO a mag of that sort......would perhaps....... encourage a less welcome element to the banks,we have enough probs with litter etc as it is.....plus I believe
that we would probably see a "tent city" of anglers lining the banks, never giving the fish breathing space. During the season there is quite enough
info readily available in the many mags that are already published, plus, this and similar sites have a wealth of info for those interested.

Not spot on with me!
A less welcome element? Like to elaborate? What a selfless bunch we are (excuse the hint of sarcasm). Using words like 'we', 'ours', 'mine', etc....says it all really. Most of the angling world are all for encouraging new anglers - but not certain elements of the 'barbel fraternity'? As far as I'm concerned if one has a rod licence and the right permit, they're welcome to fish. Going on about the 'bivvy brigade' just stinks of paranoia. The stereotype concerning Germans, towels and beaches spring to mind - just a little closer to home. There, thrown my oar in. There's still very much a market for printed magazines, Dan, judging by the number of new titles released every year. Quite a few buy them, and quite a few prefer to flick over the page rather than pressing 'page down' on the keyboard. I think Neil was merely taking that stance. Good luck to all those out on the 16th |

I wasn't aware of that Rich, i only used to buy IYCF and that was about 2 years ago and the price just went up and up, i found less and less concerning
river fishing which now i realise maybe a good thing and i stopped buying it. I must still have about 30 issues somewhere in the house.
I understand that some may like the idea of mags but i prefer the page down as you put it. I know for sure that if i hadnt of registered with BFW my knowledge of the Goyt would be even patchier than it is and i wouldn't have the opportunity to meeting many likeminded anglers and learning from them, offering something in return whenever possible. Thats just my opinion. Also, good luck for all those on 16th Dan |

hi rich . | ||

you got the point exactly rich . i hated this kind of attitude when i first started carp fishing 30 years ago . and its still with us . you never know , if a
few more people were educated through the press , we might not have so many people poaching the rivers in the closed season . as we all know this goes on .
education often helps people abide by the laws so maybe . just maybe . a bit more info for the younger anglers may just help . maybe . not that its just the
younger people that flaunt the rules . it may just stop your favourite swim being poached in the closed season . ;-) . neil .

Hi All,
Excellent weather for the first day of the season, though the river's very low. I had a small barbel, two chub (all 3lb approx.) and a bream (2lb approx). I also lost what felt like a very good fish late on. Neil - good point Cheers, Rich |

Hope you're digit's getting fixed, Neil.
I was on the river today , midday to 7pm. No barbel showing (not for me at least) but caught 8 chub (between 1.5lb and 3lb). River's about 2 feet lower than normal though looking great with all the resurgent greenery. Saw a few chaps that I've not seen before and reckon (not that I know every Fed member by any means Any barbel to report? Cheers, Rich |

All,
Is the BA stretch immediately downstream of the Stockport Fed Otterspool stretch and on the same bank (right)? Any info gratefully received. Jerry - it can only get better and surely will. Good luck when you're out next. Cheers, Rich |
