10 Chub (suicidal bloody things) and 4 barbel for me on opening day, but the banks were way tooooooo busy for good Barbel fishing.
Still, great to be back......... Decided to tench yesterday and has a cracking morning on Dudmaston. 25 to 5,4, all on wag and corn, then changed lakes and had 6 Carp to 12lb on lift float and bread flake during a quick evening session. Steve |

Had four up to 6lb 6 this morning. That Croc I think was an air dried dead bait that I used last year, it was 14 foot long and I had only lip hooked it with a
size 16 when I had a terrific take. I will put a small hook in the flank in future.

Hour and a half tonight. 1 bite 1 fish 8-12.
Robbopike, do the crocs have the PACGB Pikemark? You'd want to be sure they come from lawful and sustainable sources. |

Had an all day, part of the night and very early session on the Lower Teme. Really hard work, only way to catch seemed to be stalking the little devils. My
pal had one 5lb 4oz last night, while I had a small Chub yesterday and an 8lb Barbel at dawn today. Saw one or two fish come onto the bait, although the river
was a bit coloured, but they were not really feeding in earnest.

Andrew, a nice 8 pounder came from the croc peg last night and I found a new swim down stream. Took a couple of willows out and had a quick cast with a guest
that helped me and named it Feeneys pool. Took a fish about 5 from there so worth giving it a try. Top beats produced some nice Barbel and Carp yesterday.

Had a 6.2, and 5.8, plus a chub this pm. Lost a screamer in a near bank downstream sunken bush.. think the only way to fish that swim is from opposite bank.
Its times like this that convince me that I was right to go 100% barbless. Still, its aint a nice feeling.

Got my first of the season at 7lb plus, how good does that feel?? Almost forgot how these Teme barbel fight. Fished Cotheridge this evening, slow sport all
round, some were using red maggot with some bits and small barbel plus one reported sea trout!! Pellet useless, one bite and one fish on 2 inch cube of meat.
Needs some extra water I think.

6.30 until 10.45 with Robbopike tonight. He had a 6 12 and a 5 14 and I had a 5 0. My fish came a foot from the bank in a shallow fast stretch. I had five
barbel feeding in front of me in almost clear water less than 3ft from the edge sucking mini pellets out of the cracks in the riverbed. Had to switch from a
larger pellet to a bunch of the minis to get a bite. Saw the fish pick the bait up and it's surprised reaction before the bite even registered on the line.
Fantastic.
Also worth mentioning is that after I hooked it, whenever it came close enough to see (in the shallow edge) it had another barbel "synchronised swimming" right next to it and there was also a 18" lamprey (!) swimming around the swim with the barbel and chub too. |

Hard day today, bit more colour, they weren't having it. Had just one at 4 and half. Your Lamprey Will, did a farewell wave and went downstream to cause a
stir around Tenbury Bridge. It was about three feet long a rather orangey brown and tatty looking by all accounts, I saw it head off from our stretch and the
penny didn't drop at first as to what it was because it stayed on the surface for about 20 yards.

Caught my first Teme Barb today. Hadn't fished the Teme for almost ten years since it wasn't kind to me all those years ago. Fished quite a snaggy swim
with sunken branches, roots, etc. Lost two fish early on which snapped me. I was fishing 10lb Daiwa Sensor to 10lb flouro hooklink. Now I tried to hook and
hold to keep them out the snags but got done on both occasions, the fish I did land was about 5lb so I'm guessing the others were a little larger. Any tips
on how I could have got these fish out in the peg i described? If I give line they'll dive into the roots and holding them didn't work either. I
suppose I could go heavier but then that could mess up presentation. Just to note that I could only get bites on flouro, tried braid and couldn't get a
bite.
Cheers, Lee |
