Are you pre-baiting?
I know this sounds really obvious but bridges, structures etc are places to target. I've never caught one though.................. . I had one session last year after spotting one on a previous session but I caught a barbel instead in a slow stretch that I didn't know had barbel!

One good tip is to avoid completely, any stretches which as a still water carp angler you might think look "carpy", such as any areas of completely
slack water off the main flow. These are normally just full of twigs and stinking black silt. Deep water close in gives me confidence, especially if there is
any kind of overhead cover. Otherwise, find where the bream are and then fish closer to the bank than you would normally.
English as tuppence, changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss
Havishambling, hermit-crab, tight-fist, eremite, feudal still, reactionary Rawlinson End.

Been fishing for these for the last 5 years (Along with Bertie of Course) They can be a nighmare as like barbel they travel and travel and travel.... I have
found pre baiting a waste of money as carp can be in one peg one day and not return for months despite the feed. They will eat it and move on. Simple running
rigs with maize or fruity boilies work to keep the Bream away (Mostly). Look for confluences with canals, streams and rivers. Bridges and mored boats. They are
frustrating, but a river Carp to me is worth 20 fish from a still water as you have to work harder for them and the fight is 10 times more fulfilling. Even a
6lb er will go like stink and you will never go back.
Ps Do not give up, I went 6 months before I landed my first. Any tips let me know Mark |

Feels weired tho know, been waiting so long and then out the blue, tiny but firm twitches on the tip all day, up and down in bait sizes and types of bait, and
finally one has it good n propper, had the beut on two halves of Lamprey boiley, same as i had the big bream barbs and chub in one sitting last year.
Strange fight tho, hooked him in 9 ft of water and almost imediatley surfaced then down and off like a barbs but all over the place, what the big uns like. Did notice one thing tho, they have very small mouths like the ones we have on our local canals, not like the big gobbed buggers off the stillwaters.

Mate, just head down the track and park up at the bottom near to the pump house. All the carp seem to come out from under the far bank.

iv spotted carp on my river,i put some pellet on a gravel patch(to spot barbel) carp seem to turn up 5pm on the dot, then 20mins later move off.
last night i had my rig in place and some freebies at 4 45pm,and just as i thought they turned up but 7mins late lol.No action i returned this morning but they never shown up,i was thinking they just vistit here early evening. Then i was looking around thinking where is there base camp. Then i seen a big orange figure over the other side to my right.I thought what the $%^& is that.I made it out to be a koi carp,i watch it just lay a foot under the surface for a while then chucked my kit in boot and drove over the bribde for a closer look. The koi was still there.i made up a small bag of pellets and it had already disapeared,i then tried to under arm flick a bag of pellet in the area the koi was in,but made a hash of it,plosh 2 feet from the bank. A while later there was the koi(8ish lb and big chub)at my feet behind a rock out of the flow. Then 4 big carp turned up.I was sh%*ing my self cause ionly have 4 feet of water clear of weed then heavy sunken lillys. I managed to hook 2 but the hook pulled under presure. No break ups just hook pulls,im using barbel gear,1 5lb tc 10lb line 15lb snake bite. Should i beef up my gear or do some weed clearing. please help tom |

.ive been in the same situation.1.75 tc
barbel rod and 2 carp took me all over the river and lost both .i use
2.75 and 3lbcarp rods 15lb line and been glad of it.have had a lot of sucsess using double 18 mm boilies(to deter the bream) and small pva bags of whole and
broken boilies.hope that helps.steve

Cheers steve,
Im gonna do that but hope a mate will lend me 1 cause ive sold all my carp gear! Is it likely they will be living on this bend because they have been there for 8days now or could they move on at any point?,and i think im the only angler who knows they are there because its all over grown and a very quite stretch any how. |
