I don't know why u r thinking of changing, sure the xtes's are a little large, but if your static fishing they are a great reel. If you quivertip whats
wrong again with the twinpower. If i were u i'd forget about replacing like for like and go for a pin, many good ones out there, and if your not sure abot
casting theres one answer. ROLLING PIN

The ones you have are perfect. I use the XTAEs all year round and they're a great reel.
Not sure why you need a smaller reel for the summer anyway? Gavin |

I bought the 5oooXtea,s and the fox fs7000, both are nice reels, but the xtea,s get my vote, much smoother to use, also the handles on the fox reels, either
single or double are too short, it makes them a bit harder to wind under load, the plus for the fox reels is the spool design and line lay, makes distance
casting easier, but its harder to wind all that line back on the reel. The other point worth mentioning is that the drag system on the fox reels is not suited
for light line use, the heavy spool takes a bit of pressure to move it even on a slack setting, so if you use lines 8lb or less, beware, no such problems with
the XTEA,s, I woud confidently use the clutch with 3lb line or even less!

I use the 5000 xtea's for all my barbel fishing but if you wanted something a bit smaller/lighter look at any of the fixed spool shimano's with
fighting drag as you can set them up to have a freespool/baitrunner facility using the fighting drag lever.

Please can I digress a little? there is no need to use twelve pound line on a centrepin, you have control of the drum with your thumb and therefore you can
give line in an instant, eight is as high as you need to go. I have over forty years pin experience and touch wood have never been broken yet.

i have never got on with rear drag shimmy runners, they just dont give line smoothly enough
the gearing is fantastic but the drag is flippin awful okuma epix EB40's are awesome for barbel fishing in my opinion barbel on a centrepin?......... uh uh been there!.....why risk losing a PB, you need supreme control ok in clear runs, and fun to say the least but when there are snags and cut offs i wouldnt be so silly LOL |

I bought a pair of the fox stratos 7000's - and although i've only used the shimano non baitrunners previously so cant draw a direct comparison, i can
say that the stratos feels great - its well balanced and absolutely solid. The line lay is perfect and i wouldnt say they are heavy by any standards. I got a
great deal from a guy with a shop on ebay - you have to pay by card over the phone tho, it saves listing fees and paypal charges etc.... If you want his
details pm me...

gabby - I've been using a stratos for over a year now (the same one) and it's all good so far. I take your point though - having read a couple of other
threads on here.

And whilst I could certainly say the same of my old 5010's or 6010's I very much doubt that the new ones will be the same, shimano's build quality has certainly dipped considerably in recent times. |

cant comment myself really, just heard so many bad things about them
personally i'd rather the stratos to shimano anyday but okuma are where its at for me |

every make of reel will have a bad story about it, due to different usage . a monday morning / friday afternoon build or do china make there employees work
24/7 ?
quality from all makes does seem to be dipping. however they are built down to a price now due to lots more competition. a friend of mine makes his living from his customers angling in a harsh environment and he is not sponsored . shimanos grace his rods. i like my daiwas and abus though!!! cheers ,dave |
