Something i wanted to ask in the first post.
Does anyone have any targets this season. I know that after enduring a tough time last season landing 4 Barbel, biggest about 8lb smallest about 2lb that i would like to catch more Barbel this season of any size. Of course, a big-un in the colder months will be nice but it will only be the icing of 08-09. I really enjoyed fishing a different stretch on the last day of the season and hope to diversify further this season coming and catch from a variety of areas. All in all, can't wait for the 16th. 2 weeks and counting.... |

Night Fishing from archived reports - last post | ||
|
Hi Roger123,
Who said they were fishing a Stockport Fed stretch at night ? There are other stretches to fish apart from the Fed ones. No one controls the Tame - I don't think it has seen an EA bailiff during the close either. Hi Dan, My target is to catch where I have blanked in the past. Regards, Dave |

fed night rules | ||

i don't know if anyone agree's with me , but i think the fed's rule of no night fishing is totally out of date . if they changed there stance it
would self ballif there water's .just look at poynton pool . bivvies at the boat house all week long in summer . there will no doubt be someone who will
get the hump with this .

Hi Dave
Good luck with that, might be tricky but am sure you will do it. Hi sheephead. I feel the same way. I know a lad who fishes the Teme, W Avon amongst other midland rivers and when i told him of the no night rule on the fed card and he agreed it was very strange. Like it has been said, there are other stretches which might be exempt from this. Dan |

Sheephead - yes, it's a bizarre rule alright.
Dan - I aspire to spread my wings as well and fish most of the river. And, like Dave, to hopefully catch. Good luck everyone |

sorry i obviously jumped to a very wrong conclusion . most of the posts and images i have seen are about or from pear mill, so i assumed that was the area in
question. the night rule seems to be because most of their waters were in parks, etherow and woodbank being the first. hope i haven't ruffles to many
feathers, all the best for open night. roger

Evening all,
I will be venturing out on the goyt alot more this season. With the sky high cost of petrol it makes sense to stay closer to home more often. Will have a bash for the barbel but the other species in the river seem to fascinate me more. A nice roach, perch or chub would be a welcome catch. Enjoy Damo |

Roger - fair assumption really. I'm sure there are no feathers ruffled
Damo - haven't seen many roach or perch (once prolific, I hear), but there are plenty of nice chub. Where (if i may ask) have you fishing on your travels? Good luck for the new season everyone. |

Hi Rich
I bet they still are prolific in pockets, but theyre always on the move. One session i was trotting on a top top chub peg and started getting the roach and dace and every time ive tried since no luck. Where theres the roach theres normally the odd dace too but i havent caught one in about 3 or 4 years now, partly because trout and grayling have raised to dominence |

Hi Dan - sorry for the confusion; I was referring to perch as once being prolific.
See you next week. Cheers, Rich |

I have had roach in Brabyns but only during one session last summer and it has not been repeated. I also believe that the large number of small grayling
and trout bully the roach and when I did manage a few it was in a small glide after a number of trout, then grayling, then chub and I was on the verge of
moving swims.

had some nice perch from otterspool below the weir on the slacker pegs to 3lb and also from pearmill on the park side down the steep muddy bank near the weir
to 2 1/2lb this was about 18 months ago so they should still be about, i always find worm to be the best bait usually trottted.

Hi Jerry,
I got minnowed out there last year but will try again with the worm or prawn. Thanks for the tip. |

hi everyone . does anyone know of any commercially available magazines , dedicated to barbel fishing . apart from the barbel society/catchers mag's . neil
.

Hi Neil - I don't actually think there are any, but I hope I'm wrong. I've tried searching on the net and haven't come up with anything so
far......

hi rich , with barbel fishing making such a rise at the moment , its a shame nobody has had the foresight to publish a magazine dedicated to river/barbel
fishing . i keep hearing that barbel are the new carp , so i'm sure the publisher's could make a nice old wedge out of us , just like they do with the
carp angler's . neil .

The nearest thing you have to a dedicated to Barbel/ River Fishing
is Coarse Angling Today, next to no Carp/ comercial fishing in it's pages, plenty of interseting articles by well known writers/ talented Anglers/ on rivers country wide.

Neil - yes, it's a shame alright. From the threads on this site it appears the average barbel angler is pretty articulate, so it would be fairly easy to
fill a bi-monthly magazine. I don't have any contacts in the publishing world, but there's a good opportunity for someone that has.
Cheers, Rich |
