hi all, well what is your interpretation of a swim,an area thats well fished,or an area where the fish are,but almost impossable to get a bait in.

Find around 60 lengths usually does it for me
Seriously though, its a pitch which gives one access to the water, usually wherever I fit my seat... Bankside Access in the summer often means there is only one real spot in a given stretch where you can fish so that becomes the swim, Often with names. Usually "Andy's Swim" or "My Swim"

hi,sorry seems i put that post up twice.
i would say a swim is where most anglers would fish, like a gap in the bankside vegitaion, where you can get your seat in and other tackle.but on the other hand if you found fish away from the normal swims,in an overgrown area with just enough room to poke your rod in,i wouldnt call that a swim, more like a certain spot. derek. |

It's only a swim because anglers have made it easy for themselves by cutting all the veg down to sit in they chairs !
A spot where you have to poke your rod through is still a swim in my eyes just because to may have to stand or lay down because you can't get a chair in is stupid and those spot normally produce the goods anyway

hi,well if that was the case cushy, then every yard of banks bordering the rivers would be swims then.

I reckon a swim can be some where you just poke your rod through the reeds, a swim is anywhere you happen to be fishing.
Permanent 'swims' are pegs, surely? This has to be THE debate of the closed season. |

Mine :-
A swim is a stretch of water where you can get a hook and bait in - not always with an associated peg. A peg is somewhere where you can park your gear whilst you get a hook and bait in a swim. Don't know what to call a stretch of water that you cannot get a hook and bait in - an unfishable swim ? Dave |

IMO a stretch of river is one big swim; any spot that takes my fancy gets a look-in. Regularly fished swims tend to get up/down-graded to pegs.

when is a swim not a swim ?simple ,when ts on private land or game river then its a beat
a swim is a stretch of water that may or may-not contain fish ,and might OR might not have comfortable access too
the water ,It could or could not have a permanent "Peg" designated place to fish from and if I'm fishing in it its not a swim its a lost cause

hi,well i associate swims as in carp fishing,as they all had names.but on a river its a lot different, with miles and miles of river.
just imagine you caught a big fish, and you got asked what swim did you catch it,and you say the tree swim, most of the blooming river is lined with trees.anyway i prefur to call them areas, that way it dont give it away. derek. |

In the 'good old days'. swims were on rivers and pitches were on stillwaters, but I am old fashioned and almost proud of it.
