Thats definately old stuff you got there, had some myself once and no matter haw long you boil it for it wont split! I have never had to cook hemp for longer
than 3 hours and i dont soak it, just a good measure of bicarb plenty of salt and a tablespoon of sugar for every 1kg seems to do the trick.

Following on from thisisjohns's suggestion, a 24 litre cooler box is now £6 at ASDA! Going to get one myself today.

You can then fill it full of the cheap ASDA hemp oil that Bolliebob found!!

Good news,got some new hemp seed,this time i bought a 20kg sealed bag(£16.99) and it spilt in no time, just proves the older the seed the longer it takes to
split, thats if it splits at all.

Pritch,
I hope you're never fishing next to me - Think I'd blank!
Seriously though, where are you getting the stuff from? Way more than that should be splitting so am not too sure what's happening there for you..... Regards Never give up - There's always tomorrow! |

First off is to find a good supplier with a high turnover so you're getting fresh stuff, i buy mine at a market, he doesn't sell large bags they are
only in kilo bags but it's always good stuff..
you will never get every seed opening, even in the frenzied hemp cans not all of it is split, i probably get 80-85% split which is more than good enough... hemp will float if you let it dry out, keep it in water and it will be fine.. i use the bucket method for cooking it, only do small batches at a time cos we have a small freezer and it's rammed most of the time.. for quickness the thermos flask job works ok, enough for a short session.. |

Cooking Hemp | ||

Hi
Have tried various ways of cooking hemp over the years including coolbox method, burco boiler, sauce pan, but i have just fitted a new kitchen, so i would like to try the pressure cooker method Do you still need to soak it first ? How much can you cook in one go? How much pressure do you cook it under? Do you cool it down or let it cool down? Regards Wayne

Hi Wayne.
I never need to keep checking if its ready, if you leave it for 25 mins on the heat it will be ready, so you can then leave it to cool. I usually run the
pan under the cold tap for a few seconds after cooking and then empty into a container to cool down before use.
