Its more by word of mouth that i know there stretches on the tees are decent. Hopefully someone else will advise you, i just would not waste my money with Thornaby if its soley Barbel you are targeting as even for Chub Croft isnt as half as good as it was before the Barrage was built at stockton! I tend to go further afield to rivers which arent as unpredictable as the Tees due to compensation water from the resevoir's being fed into the river to help canoists on weekends at the Barrage. I have also been told that Darlington Brown Trout is worth a look at as well. Ferryhill have only one secton on the Tees at over dinsdale, the stretch is on the opposite bank to the associations water (ATDAC), so you are probably better joining a club with membership to ATDAC. The rest of Ferryhill water is on the Wear, Tyne, Swale and Browney (I think) Cheers

Posts: 25 (19/05/08 11:19) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hello Matt, as ja75 was saying try joining a club with ATDAC membership then you get access to stretches at Sockburn and Dinsdale as well. I am a Thornaby member and as Caster said in his post it is a bit of a hike to a decent swim but as I'm new to barbel fishing myself I can't really comment on the population of fish, though there have been some double figure fish caught on this stretch. Thornaby club also have a stretch at Brompton on Swale and a lovely looking stretch at Kilgram Bridge on the Ure. Cheers

Posts: 196 (27/05/08 14:37) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	This is the lowest i have ever seen the river in May for the past 20 years,a huge amount of our migrating coarse fish are still stuck down at Yarm waiting for a bit of fresh.If we dont get it soon it will be a poor start to the season as they always need 3 to 4 weeks to settle again after running up the river. Made spotting easy though watched a big female Barbel and 3 much smaller males going through their routine at the Nursery at Dinsdale. Also spotted a shoal of 8 to 10 fish (at least 3 doubles) in the Sockburn Hall area,banks are once more like the Malayan jungle not that the Teeside Association will do anything about it.With no matches on the tollbridge stretch this year that will mean no pegs cleared so get down there with your strimmers if you want to be able to get near the river.Or alternatively contact your secretary and ask him to ask ATDAC why they have not had any work parties on there river stretches to make the banks safe for angling ,something they should be doing.
