I try to go fishing two or three times a week but how far is too far .
Lads at work think am mad because of the distance i travel to barbel fishing , the swale is around 92 mile trip from my
house (but i love it ) the wharfe is around 50, and Ive just bought a book for a river which is 140 mile round trip would anyone class this
as mad? i dont mind traveling and putting the effort in for my fishing just intrested to find out how far other barbel anglers will travel
before you class it as mad!

I fished the Dorset Stour for a couple of Seasons ( mainly in the Winter for the chub) which is 250 mile round trip, I fish the Kennet once or twice a week,
which is about 150 mile round trip, used to fish the Lea weekly which is again about 150 odd mile round trip. Next winter I'm hopefully fishing the Avon
near Salisbury, which is getting on for a 200 mile round trip. Wish I had some shares in BP or Shell!

Not really, i have travelled over 150 miles (each way) to fish the Wye for nearly six or seven years.
The trouble is when you want to fish somewhere travel doesnt really come into it, it just means you have to skive of off work an extra hour or two each week

hi,i have travelled from hitchin to the h.a,then from sussex,then wiltshire,now i live 5minutes away from it[at the cost of my ex wife]the last place i lived
with here was in a mobile home in wiltshire,lived there for two yrs,and she wanted to move back to sussex,where we had just come from,so i said if you do
that,ime going the other way.
it comes at a price though,now have to do everthing myself. derek. |

Sorry to hear about the divorce Derek. Its still a cheaper option than traveling though, what with the price of petrol and all!

hi,well oaksey,you never know what life throws up at you sometimes.havnt got a clue where she is living now,but at a guess somewhere near my daughter nr
dorking surrey,at least i still have contact with her,although her mum is never mentioned.
i find the hardest thing is cooking,and i keep buying those frozen packet meals,which ime sure are not the best things to keep eating.i have bought 2simple cooking books but when i give the recipe a go it dont turn out right,but i keep trying. takes a lot to get used to when you have lived with some one for nearly 30 yrs,and yes dont buy much petrol these days to get to the river. derek. |

Luckily in York I have the rivers Ouse, Nidd, Wharfe and Swale within 15-20 mins drive. I don't mind driving about though, The Trent is only an hour and a
half away. I travel a lot with work as well all over the country and usually take a stalking rod with me.

The time between me pulling out of the drive and casting in to the Loddon is 12 minutes dead. This means I know my local bit of river intimately and can be
on the water 7 days a week when conditions are good. The downside it that it makeas me a bit lazy and a 20 minute trip to the Thames or a 30 minute trip to the
Kennet can seem a bit of a trek!
