I have found my local stretch free from anglers and the signs of fishing this year its a blessed relief to live in the sticks sometimes.
I really feel for you guys having the rules trampled on, on your stretch by the annoying few. Would be nice to see some kit removed from the transgressors...clive |

Personally i would 'poach' them in very hot water with a small bouquet garni and a little white wine.
Not sure how edible they would be after that but i am sure they would not do it again

Get worse?
Possibly. But it won't get worse owing to a bunch of ravening EEs knocking off our fish. The EEs, those of them who stay more than the few years required to retire home relatively wealth people, will (as an earlier wave of immigrants - European Jewish - did) soon start doing what the Romans (British) do: respect close seasons and not kill coarse fish. It is the British, I believe who are now the problem (and will continue to be a problem), having been conditioned in recent years to think that "There ain't a close season, mate / chief / John..." (and strenuously use such apparent ignorance in their defence, before offering violence to their apprehender). All part of an "all personal rights, no responsibilities, Mr Me-Me" attitude and culture that has become prevalent over the past thirty years. I found three, British, white, kids fishing for some good chub the other day: 16 or 17 the lads were; two were free-line sight-fishing (fairly efficiently, I noted) for the chub, with the third keeping the skunk joints going. I smiled my non-fisher walker's smile as I passed by; two stared straight through it, the third scowled. Yeah. We need to look to our own kind before getting worked up about the much-publicized barbecuers of a few fish (thse will be gone soon; or, if still with us, soon inclined to follow the rules; our own lot, unless educated and /or punished, won't).

Paul, get over yourself! You shove you obvious grievance and pain about totally unrelated fisheries into so many posts. You used to be a hero of mine, now you come across as a bitter person unable to cope with the reality of 2008. Yeah life isn't fair, but I'd have thought a man of your experince would be able to rise above and move forwards - you make it clear that it is not the case - let it go! Life is sh*t, life is great, half full vs half empty - we are not long around so why not go for the half full option? cheers, Paul Tilly.

I don't think my glass is half empty or half full, I just think it's too small!

Murkeywaters wrote: Oh dear. What an intemperate Mr Angry Trousers response to some far from bitter stuff of mine. I will refer you in a few minutes to some stuff that I wrote on a fly site a few days ago; it will show you that I am a glass half-full optimist (indeed, I wrote the very same words) and not the pessimistic cynic that appears to be summat like a default setting for so many Brits now.. I'll be back in a mo'. As promised: Here is the thread. First page of several in "where did we go wrong"- http://www.sexyloops.co.uk/cgi-bin/theboard_07/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=8482;&#top
After a reading the following post - "an example of my frustration is where the water companies which were owned by the public were sold as stock. Some years later we are duly informed that collecting water in a barrel, the water coming off your roof, which would otherwise go into the river via a drain, is assessable by said stockholders as you are depriving the river. This, in context of our being told to conserve water. $#%%%#++. We live in a world of tax. My biggest bugbear is with the 'government' and its enforcenent agencies.. police with no powers ... councils who spy on people under acts designed for terrorism ... legalised theft of vehicles by towaway companies who lifted my car from my friend's private lot, despite protests by the property owner, myself and locals... lying politicians who remove our right to freedom ... lying politicians who declare illegal wars ... that's just in this country and just a wee bit of grief. Look at what happens worldwide; anyone applying for asylum in China?
Somebody should remind these agencies that we pay their wages. We are paying to be bullied. What do we get in return.. bend over to find out. Don't get me started. whiskey or no whiskey. .... the civil servant now extends every effort to impoverish the masses, the masses lose. We pay their wages. They use global warming as an excuse to tax us upon taxes. We pay their wages. Councils use our money to buy cameras to fine us for doing 54mph in a 50 zone dual cariageway with no pedestrian access and without known nor historical hazard, the monies go to the councils. We pay their wages. hang on - we have already paid their wages. A friend got nutted in the face while walking with his kids in the park, and had been hit by a cricket ball on his head - there was nobody playing cricket, just an $%$#+*% with a ball... so he'd shouted at the assailant to *+%+ off and not dare come near the kids.... somehow, some of his blood spattered the attacker.. He got his kids home safe but traumatised.. He complained to the police. Then the attacker filed a complaint against him - that he had spat blood on the other party who claimed innocence. Nobody would stand in evidence against him, a known thug and $%$#+*%. result.. my friend got bound over to keep the peace, as did the coward who had attacked him. The cops, whose wages we pay, got two nickings for the price of one. good statistics for the month, hey My friend paid the judge's wages that day too. Don't get me started. We all end up losers. The winners are those who climb the ladder of power. The bullies and scum who now rule. We still pay their wages so that they can widen the partition between 'them' and 'us'. Not that I am cynical or anything"
-- I offered this general observation of my own: "D'ya know, there are times when I start to become concerned for a few of my fellow fishers.... Just add water and fish and flies, plus the hope that drives any real Angler, plus a smidgeon of tying-bench and domestic pre-fishing (not to mention default-setting waterside) guile, then the pain goes away. Pfff! Evaporated. Gone."
-- the original poster replied: not on my planet. I go fishing to relax and test flies and do some fishing. That does not mean that the world is suddenly to rights. It just means I get a bit of fresh air and renew my energies which I can use to try to do something for this planet before it rots to slime... priorities, Mr Boote.
-- And I replied back to him: Priorities, huh? Oh yes, I know all about priorities - domestic, financial, political etc - I have to address them daily, and somehow squeeze them in among the demands of trying to be something more than just a half-decent, thinking , responsible Angler who's going to leave his much-loved pastime rather better than worse when he finally popping his clogs... It's the best you can do, after all. It's merely the demanding but delicious 'problem' that a "glass half full" person like myself has to confront. Others, however, appear to think that we're all "going to Hell in a handcart". But, then, we're all different, I suppose...
Regards etc from an infuriatingly ever-optimistic "Mr Boote"
