"BAA Match Secretary Pete Jones announces that an eel only contest will be held along the river Severn at Birds Meadow, Tewkesbury subject to Environment
Agency bye-laws, on Sunday 25 May. Entry is open to BAA members only and tickets are available from Pete @ £10. For full details and to book your place
contact Pete on: 01452 856041".
I've just emailed the BAA Head Office and ask if other BAA members not fishing are entitled to check the baits of those fishing and also how the officials will police the baits and methods in order to ensure compliance with EA regs - It'll be interesting if I get a response....... Never give up - There's always tomorrow! |

Ali baba was a thief i find that quite derogatory. Do you actually do humour chris???? or is it an EA training method that you have no humour or personality!!!
All my love Ali Allah akhbar |

Are they breaking the law? No. I don't understand what the problem is.
When the close season is abolished most of you will be fishing the rivers I'll bet. |

Ali,
Will you stop winding poor old Chris up.........He's got a black uniform, a stab vest, a spit visor on his helmet, hand cuffs, a black rubber boat with a stealth mode outboard and he's trained in restraint holds! You should have a bit more respect for the EA's answer to the SBS, (senior service and all that). |

Morning ..John, Pons, butts ,etc........getting back to Leo's original post........This stunt by the BAA is just another example of how poor the management of this club is. There are plenty of problems within the club that could be sorted with a little common sense. I would have thought that these are more important than personal campaigns about the close season. Hands up those who reckon the club night permit scheme is a good idea Paul |

Paul you should try buying 1 now and again like me
Who actually chose the waters you can night fish and why ?? |
|||
Paul C |

Ian ....This subject has come up before, and the reason given is that only some leases allow the club to have night fishing. This is prob true on a few sections, but think about it.....If you were a farmer, and the contolling club offered a bit extra to allow night fishing ,would you not be tempted? The BAA do not seem to understand how to cater for the needs of the majority of the membership. How for instance can anyone predict exactly which night they are going to fish the severn in the winter?? Not only is the scheme daft, but it could actually be quite dangerous. The solution to most of BAA problems is simple........CHARGE A BIT MORE. Cheers Paul |

What a sad state of affairs this is, BAA the largest angling club on the planet, (?) showing off just what they are capeable of doing, where they want and when
they want to. In my mind they are acting just like poorly educated kids who want to bend a rule to gain attention, thumbing their nose at those who actually
hold something in reverance. (mind you I'm not supprised, this is a club that still allows retention of barbel in keepnets)
Now this is just the tip of the iceberg in my mind, and might lead to other poorly judged shows of down right selfishness and bad taste. The close season is in my mind there for several damn good reasons, to give the fish a well earned break, let the grass and fauna on those well worn banks a chance to grow back, let the birds do what they do this time of year, in peace and without disturbance. If there is an eventual lifting of the close season, I know of several clubs that will still close their waters for a close season. Good for them and I hope neighbrring clubs show that they are more responsible and care for natures welfare this time of year.

Maybe a simple answer would be for people not to join/rejoin BAA.
Send a letter in to the secretary explaining the reasons why. Steve |

I would Steve, but I paid up in Jan... a letter of concern is worth writing though.

Maybe an even simplier answer would be for the E.A. to abolish this grey area and make all close season fishing on rivers illegal!?!?
Maybe we should not renew our rod licences in protest of this?? I believe the BAA do a good job and when it comes to value for money surely its the best club ticket in the country!?!? Their decission to hold this match is misguided but if nothing else surely it serves to highlight a massive loophole in the E.A. policy that needs closing. Chris |
