Does anyone local know if this is a designated SSSI location, as as i don't think they will 'legally' be able to fish the river if it is?

Eels are not even mentioned as a species on the BAA website write up for this fishery!

Not sure if the Mythe has any special status other than the water treatment plant that was the big news in the July floods. It is the Lower non tidal Severn at
Tewkesbury, and on my doorstep. It's a mixed fishery, with a good head of roach bream and the odd big barbel and river carp. Alongside this stretch of the
Severn is Mythe Pool a popular match venue for BAA, so why the hell don't they confine their antics to the pool ?? I have asked the question to BAA HQ but
no reply as yet. If they do not respond, and if the match goes ahead then I am afraid I will have to become an anti for a day. Ha!!

Dougalz, how would the EA turning up give the BAA good publicity? Being a Tewkesbury lad and knowing how big the eels get in Uckinghall and Mythe lakes
(right next door to this stretch of the Severn) this is simply John the idiot Williams making a point about his desire to see the close season on rivers
abolished. The EA turning up, catching a few people using pellets, meat, maggots etc would show the BAA that this "match" is disgraceful and opposed
by a major fishing body.
Could/would the ACA and any other bodies be able to put pressure on the BAA? |

Dougal ,with respect.
Since when did you determine where the Lwr Severn Bailiffs go on their patrols. Last time they pulled this stunt, only FOUR anglers turned up according to "Teme Valley",all of course observing the byelaws and relevant licences. Oh ,and for the record the Lwr Severn and Warks Avon has recieved plenty of visits from EA officers lately as well you know, and plenty of white tickets issued !! Also ,there is much confiscated equipment littering the depots. Pons

That's right Chris we all love you really, just don't be a stranger. i was gonna ask about any nice bait-runners you might have 'kicking'
around at the depot, but thought better of it.

Ello Chris you big scary bear of a man
I dont determine where the Bailiffs go, of course I dont - I'm merely quoting from a conversation, about this 'Eel Match', that I had with the Environmental Crime Team Leader (your gaffer?). You know as well as I do that this match is 'bait'. The AT might turn up mind! JackFox - the BAA is the largest Angling Club in Britain with quite a powerfukl sway -they may well profit if the closed season lifted (as would the Angling Times[gets a bit thin at this time of year]) Qoute "this is simply John the idiot Williams making a point about his desire to see the close season on rivers abolished." Exactly- he wants 'the club's' (really his) feelings known. |
