Posts: 66 (26/03/08 22:29) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	At least u tried jonnybarb ,did they pack up after u told them and were they English ?? i supposed they played dumb to the rules and said ohh dear we didnt know ,i hope the DBC will try do something about it ,its the law and they should do something ,tho i do think the start of the close season date and the opening date should be changed now ,but its upto ones own opinion .but the law stands and should be listened too.. As for the empty tins and fire none of us tees lads would of done that would we ,iv not yet known anyone that does that ,this must be either kids or immigrants that leave that mess ,tho the kids will be prosecuted and the immigrants let off due to racism ..

Posts: 186 (27/03/08 14:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Just so everyone knowns Darlington council couldnt care less about the broken scar fishing if they could get rid of it tomorrow they would it is just a nuisance to them and doesnt generate any income for them.The only reason they have to hang on to it is because of ancient bylaws regarding townsfolk and fishing within the town boundarys.The E.A.in the North-East are down to the bare bones because of budget cuts believe me i know i attend meetings with them. As far as i know the only stretch of the Tees which is bailiffed properly is the North Yorks stretch at Dinsdale which has two full time bailiffs and a gamekeeper.Thats because North Yorks pay for these not because they are anything to do with the E.A. The remainder of the Tees you can poach to your hearts content as theres no one to stop you,sad but true. The main culprit in all this is you the angler ,if the rod licence was £52 per year (£1.00 for every week cheap as chips) you might have a better chance of getting more E.A. bailiffs on the bank as it is at present you have no chance. So you the angler decide do you want a better run E.A. with proper bailiffing then e-mail them and tell them to increase the cost of the rod licence substantially.Please dont start all the %$!% about i cant afford it because at the end of the day if you want to fish you will afford it. Rant over (why is it i feel i have said this all before)

Posts: 135 (27/03/08 18:54) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Dinsdaleman, I agree with you £1.00 per week is a small amount to try and safeguard our sport and personally I would not begrudge such an increase, after all you cant even buy half a pint of maggots for a pound these days and though some anglers will spend a small fortune on bait and tackle during a season they balk at the price of a rod licence.. I would be even happier if those increased rod licene fees were well spent on bailifing and fish stocks rather than trying to convince everyone that the Tees is swarming with salmon. Though EA bailifs may well be thin on the ground I would suggest to any "lurkers" reading this forum that they stay clear of "poaching the Tees to there hearts content" as many stretches are well policed by the landowners, angling clubs and shooting syndicates who share the land, - you have been warned. I would be prepared to pay anything, and I do mean anything for a licence fee if it meant we could get rid of the licence dodgers and people fishing out of season. Put it up to £100 per year, it would not bother me. I am addicted to fishing for barbel and chub when the rivers are open, it a drug I am unwilling to give up. If your prepared to pay quite a bit of money for your fishing gear, like most of us are, then what is another hundred squid per year on the top. I bet you we all spend more than that over season on bait, end tackle and one thing or another. If it were £100 per year it would generate somewhere in the region of 1.2 billion pounds, as I think it was stated on the main board where I posted about this argument that the government made 20 million pounds in revenue from last years licence fees, so think of what could be achieved if they could generate that amount of money. It would allow the E.A. to recruit a hell of a lot more people than they have at the moment, and be able to start policing the rules and regulations that are in place thoroughly, but because of the state of the balifing situation at the moment within the EA and of the funding shortage in certain area's I'm afraid I'm with you Pete on this one, These so called anglers know there is not a lot that can be done about them fishing the rivers when there are no EA baliffs patrolling the waterways to stop as well as the local council not being the slightest bit interested in what goes on down there. Like you say Pete if it does not generate moneys at the end of the day, why should they take the time and effort in looking into any of the matters we have raised here. JonnyB

Posts: 187 (27/03/08 21:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Well i have sent my e-mail as well but its something i have done in the past and the reply i usually get is "shortage of resources".And as i have said before i know thats a fact.It would be a start if we could get rid of the close season poachers who dont give a toss about it and will gladly catch fish that only really want to spawn and be left alone. With regard to poachers etc next time your on your piece of club water just see how many of the other guys fishing their are known to you as club members.The chances are you wont know most of them so it could be your actually fishing with guys who are not club members but they know no one will actually check their cards,they cant lose. It riles me to think that i have to pay for my fishing and these b**tards get it for nothing.Theres a guy who regularly fishes Sockburn who delights in telling everyone "its free no one will bother down there" and hes right no one will.

Posts: 84 (28/03/08 09:25) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Although I agree to increasing the Rod licence I believe the effect of this would have the opposite affect with more people not buying one, so you would probably find the revenue generated would not increase. I think the only way to properly police the waterways would be privately by the clubs/land owners. With regards to the free stretches then its probably down to the people who regularly fish that stretch of water. You will never stop people who are wanting to poach any stretch of the river even if you construct 12ft high fences!! If people want to get in then they will!! For example I regularly match fish a stretch of river at Dinsdale. The rules clearly states that fishing is only between Monday and Friday during the coarse season, however I suspect that people regularly fish the river on a Saturday! because they have the balls to advertise the fact and post pictures of the fish (barbel) they have caught!! This stretch is supposed to have two bailiffs????. I see this as a form of poaching. Its very frustrating when you get down to a flier of a peg and find evidence that the peg has been fished on the Saturday probably filled in with boilies and halibut pellets! I think people should stop being so tight and join the clubs, buy a licence and read the rules !!!!! Maybe the EA should devise some form of visible advertisement which anglers must display at all times e.g. a memebership tag with a picture on for attaching to your rod bag? people then do not have to approach unless they can't see the membership badge?

Certainly the owner of the water who walks his dogs around the stretch of water every day and evening 7 days a week is not aware of it. But you can pass on to anyone who fancies taking a chance on doing it,if caught they will not be fishing there again.

I did inform a club representative of my suspicions and they informed me that they had passed this information on. I believe that our previous posts might just inform those who have and might try to break the rules in the coming season. I'm sure they are a minority. With regards to fishing in the closed season would it not make it easier if the close season was abolished like on the commercials? I for one would not like it abolished because I feel it gives the fish and us (fishermen) the time to rest and do other things for a couple of months. Build up enough browny points to fish in the new season! What do you think? open that can of worms again!

Posts: 15 (28/03/08 12:18) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Regarding the abolition of the close season there was an article in the Anglers Mail last year about it and the scientific response was that it would have a detrimental effect. Don't forget commercials and club waters are restocked and managed on a more intensive basis than rivers. It is not always possible to gain consent from EA to restock rivers. I recently emailed the EA to see if they had a voluntary baliff scheme but unfortunately they don't. If the police can have volunteers working for them, why not the EA? you would think they would be grateful of the assistance along as the individuals were trained by the EA and accountable for their actions. All they provided me with was the hotline number to report illegal fish/poaching which is 0800 80 70 60 just in case anyone wanted it. I'm an member of the ATDAC and althoughI've not fished Dinsdale yet thought the ban on fishing Saturday was only applicable on match days, I'll recheck my rule book tonight.
