Here are a couple I've read recently.
They arnt strictly "Barbel" or "Fishing" books, but if you are sick of the how to, where to, when to, what to, type fishing books, and like to look at the bigger picture, then these too are definitely worth buying.
I dont know the author, so have no reason to publicise these books, other than to say they are a couple of the most enjoyable reads I've had in a long time.
The two books I'm referring to are..........
The River Severn: A Journey Following the River from the Estuary to Its Source, by John Bradford.
and
The River Avon: A Journey Following the River from Tewkesbury to Its Source, also by John Bradford.
The author takes you on foot along these two midlands rivers, taking in all the interesting places along the way, covering historic events including battles and also covering places of interest, including churches and monasteries.
He also covers transport on the rivers and flora & fauna and wildlife along the way.
There is the odd reference to angling, including a nice piece in the "River Severn" book, where he describes the 'battle' between the anglers and the railway over the cost of tickets, and there are also a few "fishing related" photos, but to be honest, the books are about much more than that.
If you fish, live or just have a passing interest in history of these two rivers then I cant recommend the books strongly enough.
A quick Google will find the books are both readily available.
