Posts: 76 (21/02/08 13:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi all, I know this one has come up a few times before but I've bought one of these a few weeks ago and not put it to use yet. Being aware of the problems some people have encountered I'm curious to know whether when locked it should be locked solid, I find that it still moves albeit a bit stiffer. I'm concerned this isn't strong enough to deal with strong currents and hopefully large Barbs. Can any other users clarify? thanks Al

If you remove the top section, on the end you will see a nylon wotsit sitting on an aluminium thread. Lubricate just the thread with something like 3 in 1 oil. Make sure everything else is clean and dry, reassemble and everything should be fine. Jim

It's never let me down, but I just don't think it is really strong enough for handling decent sized barbel in a strong flow. I switched to a powerstretch handle some time ago and wouldn't use anything else. It does have a tedancy to split if you overtighten it. Gavin

There's nothing really wrong with it, you just need to follow Jim's advice above. It's happened to me a couple of times but once I've cleaned/lubricated that thread it's good as new. Only takes about a minute.

Very light and good length but I had the tightening problem. I tried the fixes suggested on here and I find that it improves but sometimes it tightens enough and sometimes it doesn't. I test it each time I fish (not been out that much for various reasons) but it does leave me a little wary of it. I contacted Drennan or whoever and they sent me a new expanding bung. Not tried it yet as the old one has worked ok so far, but like I said I am wary - but so far.......so good. As for the strength comment. Even the thinest poles will lift a fish as long as you can get it vertical and the arms stay in the slots with the weight of the fish. I don't think I have the strength to lift a net straight horizontally with a fish in it. I think most would struggle. You should try breaking the Guiness reord for lifting a snooker cue horizontally, you may be surprised. Chris

Mine does have a habit of not locking, but using the above tip soon rectifies the problem. They are an excellent pole. I'll let you know how I get on. Edit Well i've tried this now but seems to have made little difference. Does it matter how far up the thread I i replace the bung thing? I presume the idea is it expands to hold in place and that the oil helps turn the pole but not the bung? When putting back together if the bung is at its highest point then it is expanded and does not fit back in, it just needs to move down one turn to allow it to fit. Sorry to turn it into a drama. You need to set it so it will only just fits inside the bottom section when assembled. However if there is any oil or moisture inside it will not work properly. Also check the plastic bit is the right way up. Jim

Posts: 167 (21/02/08 21:46) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Had absolutely no bother with mine, but i wouldnt use 3 in 1 oil on the bung, it will eventually turn the bung brittle and damage the carbon resin as it is a mineral oil....far better to use some vaseline, or silicone grease on the thread. just remember dont over do the twisting or you will crack the walls! Tried everything suggested here but could not get it to work correctly. Took it back to the shop and tried two others before getting one that worked correctly. Had no more problems. I'm convinced that the problem was not with the cam at all but with the inside diameter of the handle itself. Too wide and the cam will not tighten correctly whatever position it is on the spindle. All about quality control. When it works it is an excellent handle. spamalot We'll banish all sorrow and sing till tomorrow And angle and angle again.

Posts: 1092 (02/03/08 10:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	This has been a problem with these handles since they first came out, shame because it is quite a good handle otherwise, never the less , take note and buy something else , or do what i did and get a friendly machinist to make you up one out of aero aluminium, ,i've had mine for years,its dead rigid,dosen't bend and is not particularly heavy, it beats the hell out of me why one of the various manufacturers can't come up with something as simple as a good telescopic landing net handle ! mind you decent in-line feeders seem to elude them all as well
