Water temp 40f (told to me by another angler) had 2 chub at 4.8 and 4.0 lb and blimey were they cold to the touch. Julian, I don't know if you remember me but I was the bloke who stopped the sawn off tree going into your swim back in July (post #67) DrS

Otherwise I think my rod would have ended up in the Humber, the size of that tree limb was enormous. I just remember being staggered that someone could carry out such "pruning" whilst others are fishing!! Good to see that the chub are still there, last time I visited that stretch they saved me from blanking. I love your picture as well, Dr Nick Riviera is a favourite character of mine. Julian

I have a Bradford No.1 membership and live near York so I have relatively easy access to Swale, Ouse, Derwent, Nidd and Ure. Any recommendations gratefully received. Posts: 37 (17/02/08 14:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Docter scottie please see my last post, jack was caught on static dead roach but smallest chub was followed in by larger pike that almost swam in to landing net, also at least a couple of times when reeling in the swim feeder it was followed by different pike so it would seem if you can get to the Swale a mobile aproach either wobbling deads, spinning or plugs would bring you results, appologies to all for being off topic but wanted to give out info. Posts: 38 (17/02/08 21:38) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Fished the Swale at Catterick yesterday for the first time didnt get a sniff on maggot or luncheon meat, struggled to find anywhere with a bit of depth also running very clear (Well thats my excuse ) Fished the Topcliff stretch today , river not as clear as Catterick stretch yesterday, one bite one fish a chub of about 2lb was cold but enjoyable.

First chuck in a chub 5lb 8 oz, ten mins later Andy had a chub on the bank 4lb 2 oz. Great, we thought we'd be in for a good sesh, but not to be, not a sniff after that. Moved to another area, but nothing. A tad on the windy side, but the high banks gave some cover from it. John

Posts: 42 (25/02/08 22:01) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Fished the middle Swale on Saturday river up and coloured not a sniff gave up at about 2.00pm after the wind became a pain , returned Sunday river still coloured but had dropped a couple of foot overnight , tried pellett, boiles and meat not a sniff switched to feeder and maggot on the inside and was rewarded with three cracking chub........well worth the wait.

Water temp 44f. Fished 4 swims had 1 chub 2lb. Switched to maggot to get a bite, and had the same problem i had last time. The chub were some how taking the maggots off the hook without registering a bite. So i switched down to a 0.15 link and a 16 hook, and i got a bite.

I fished a strech near Northallerton on Sun. River was dropping quite quickly throughout the day, with the colour dropping out as well. Managed to snag a couple of good chub. Both chub came on the barbel rod, 12lb main line, 2.5oz lead, coated braid end rig and even a 1oz back lead, hardly subtle and no contest realy. The maggot feeder was different story. Like you maddo I fished fairly light and suffered from missed bites. Did manage to hook one chub but it threw the hook after a 5 min run around. Wierd. good luck all Dan

First time I've posted on this site, although I read the Swale & Tees reports almost everyday. Also fished the Northallerton stretch of the Swale on Sunday; 7am - 10am, two bites & 2 chub @5lb 5oz & 4lb 11oz. Loads to do so could'nt fish all day. Went back 6.30pm - 9.30pm, 1 barbel @ 4lb 15oz & 2 chub @ 5lb8oz & 3lb 9oz. Not been back through the week but will be out at the weekend.
