Tried my usual stretches - trotting and on the bottom - nothing caught.

Hi Jack - I was upstream above Otterspool weir. The best places for trotting for the grayling are run offs from rapids - ie just as the water starts to deepen a little. But Saturday was ridiculous - we were catching in not much more than 6 inches of water at times! I think the fish had gone so long not feeding in the floods (grayling dont seem to care for floods at all) that they were ravenous now the river is finally clearing - even the snow-water didn't put them off!

Good catch for whoever caught it!!

Kev, well done on what sounds a good days fishing. I enjoy it catching even a couple of grayling never mind 20 in an hour

can any one tell us how to make cheese paste. got some old smelly strong mouldy chedder to start with.

Hi Sam - easiest way is to grate it then add it to a pre-made pastry mix (the rubbery stuff - like a big fat slab of plasticine!) - works well as it wont harden up too much in cold water and dead cheap from Netto etc.
Failing that mix it with dry stale bread (with the crust off) in the same way. Despite what some folk suggest I would not add any artificial flavours - plain cheesepaste is a fantastic Chub bait

my mate tommo from reddish says kraft slices moulded into a ball then put on the hook. trust me the amount of chub he has had from the dane on it is amazing. as he says "put it where they live and if there hungry they will have owt"

Static mate, in that swim i crept up on you in the other day

all chub bites recently have been tiny little taps, would never hit em if i wasnt holding the rod and feeling for em

does anyone fish any of the swims in woodbank park or is it just near paintmaster there are some good looking swims but is it the walk that puts people off ?

Sam, let us know how you get on mate, ive never had great success with cheese paste, it maybe the way i make it or summat.

a topic on the other species board has got me thinking about a lake i know, which i suspect may hold some big Roach. There's certainly plenty around a pound/pound n half so i might have a crack at that Friday morning. If i get no joy i may see you on't Goyt.

Sam - yep, planning an assault on bertie at the weekend. What's wrong with the weather on Friday for the Dane? Looks ok to me - perhaps not as warm as Saturday but temps rising nevertheless.

Bought a copy of AT yesterday (I know, how sad) and read that 3 river records have gone in January - Dorset Stour, Ribble and the Dove. Amazing! Well, unless you consider that they're all stuffed with high protein baits.

Pete - not fished Woodbank Park but planning to explore/fish there next season. There are a couple of chaps that fish there regularly - who also post on here. Let us know how you get on if you have a session.
