Hi Sam - it sounds like the fish were biting today? Were the river level back to about normal?
Cheers, Rich |

Hi All
Gave the barbel a miss and went trotting with big lob's. 2 very nice chub and a small brownie. Dave |

Dave - nice to see the diversity. Well done with the chub. I had a rainbow the other day (small as well).
Do rainbow's spawn in the Goyt? I've always been under the impression that they naturally reproduce in very few rivers. Strange the hear of so many blanks in, what would normally be, ideal barbel conditions. Falling water levels? Perhaps we need a couple of showers. Not that I can pick and choose my hours on the bank.... |

cant be the rainfall Rich, must be something else, maybe their only feeding in short bursts, but they are there and will probably come on a bit more over the
last 6 weeks of the season (hopefully)

Sam - I just couldn't compete with your yellow Lambretta!
The conditions are just perfect at the moment, and here I am sat at work. I feel a stomach upset coming on. Not that I advocate bunking off work for a day on the bank, you understand.... |

Rich, any rainbows will be escapees from stock ponds / fish farms upstream - they are safer to eat.

Saw it last night Gaskes. Rainbow trout do breed in "very few rivers in the UK." I'm not sure that theyve been breeding in the goyt, its probably
a possibilty but i would follow you assumption that they are on the run from fish farms
Rich, hows the old stomach, i would definetly bunk off. Think about it, you could be home for 12 and out on the bank for 1. |

Hi, you guys that have caught sea trout, on what basis are you saying they are sea trout and not just brown trout? How do you know they've been to sea?
Cheers, Steve |

Sea trout are silver arent they??
You can tell the difference between sea and brown trout, thats what i would of thought anyway |

Dan - actually turning into a very busy day, so no bunking off for me.
I heard a while back (a few years) that Buxton (Derbyshire) is the only place in the country where rainbows are known to breed successfully in the wild. I can't even remember where I read it though. Are the Goyt levels back to normal now? |

Rich- pretty sure the river is back to normal level, passed the mersey and goyt yesterday and both looked back to normal
Dave, cheers for that, didnt think they would breed in the goyt but couldnt be 100% sure |
