Nothing very suprising,revealing or ground shaking from what I read. Pons.

Posts: 5 (22/01/08 20:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Chris, I read the article in WH Smiths while awaiting a train home.What I do not understand is why when Duncan has been in the press before,he has said he caught from a Thames Tributary.All of a sudden this article appears with details,potential size of captures ect.Call me cynical but this may just "T" something up? Not all anglers are able to move to pastures new as some posters have suggested.Family,work and financial restrictions may limit them to their local venues.And though they may not evolve if that is the right term,in fishing terms by fishing the same venue.They may have been just happy to fish in surroundings that offer beauty and peace. People seem to forget the "little man" at times.I find that sad. Hugo

Posts: 67 (22/01/08 20:10) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I am not and never have been in on the big fish grape vine but this must be one of the worst kept secrets around this river has been tipped as a big barbel river in the press for years by loads of angler so as soon as a few are caught this was bound to happen. I feel sorry for the locals but this has happened on virtually every decent barbel river in the country one of my favorite holiday destinations for barbel which was hardly ever written about now has articles about it every month in one mag or other. I hope most people that read it today didn't buy it but glanced while waiting for trains etc. They don't deserve the revenue.

Posts: 475 (22/01/08 23:07) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Perhaps it is a suprise too many what this river has been possibly producing,it was too me until recently,but whils't I would love to have it on my doorstep ,the cost of fuel from my home would realistically stop me going too often,and I think to achieve results you would have to be a frequent visitor or just get lucky. The size of the fish must be a terrific magnet for most ,but it is my understanding that it gets busy now and the fish are well pressurised ,and canny,but obviously they get caught every now and then. My local rivers are lagging behind some others in size of fish but can be busy,though it is always possible to find quieter bits where there are potentially great rewards,but will probably be a lot of time and effort required. The AT broke the story this week,next week it will be something else,but Barbel Fishing continues to grow,we cannot stop it,unfortuanately all places will be outed in time,whether we like it or not,it's inevitable,and a shame if it is one of your own quiet places. Pons.

Posts: 7601 (24/01/08 15:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	oh boy, hell all of us in bfw have gotta hang our heads in shame now cos we was all rabbiting on for pages galore about the loddon fish in theres even a write up in the events about it too mind you there were only a FEW DOUBLES caught that weekend oh ok then double figures amount maybe aint totally sure cos i blanked as usual i mean whos swamped that day ticket short stretch venue since hell i bet there aint been 100 day ticket visitors since mind you those great big snakes are off putting for me so i aint going back til i get a trained mongoose, yep the loddons ruined now cos everyone who knew its potential has now been told about it which is about right for the info the mags give out everyone give 5 minutes silence for the demise of the Loddon please....j.w

And a load more on FM much the same. "Storm in a tea cup",how convenient . As for the fish in,no problems with that ,great weekend ,I am sure,but why,oh why do so many get on the high horse about the mags,when much more info is exchanged through here ,either by pms,river reports,and fish ins. Demise of the Loddon ?hardely,but it will be busier for sure,might even buy a ticket myself to be a "chaser" as Mr Smugness calls it,but will try to avoid the stretch he fishes because it only has mere doubles on it,yeah right. I am also privvy to stuff you wont know about,and rest assured if I was that concerned about it would have been down there long ago. If it had been a genuine scoop then it would have led to a stampede of circus animals, as it ended up it was nothing more than a bit of hype. Who is this Greg bloke who speaks in the name of the AT? When asked on FM why he took pot shots at BFW from afar, but never ventured on here, this is what he said: 'despite my best efforts over months I can't get registered on the site. Either I'm simple (quite possible), the site's pants or they know who I am!' About as believable as an AT scoop.
