That was a very special fish Ian - congratulations. I had a one bite session too. Not a barbel but my first Loddon brown trout which managed to make short
work of a large paste wrapped bait! If the temp doesn't fall too low over the next few days we might see a few more of the big girls coming out to play.

John, thanks for your reply, I wouldn't rush out for the fox net just yet, it seems to have a design flaw regarding the plastic spreader block, it is very
floppy now after just 3 uses and only one Barbel...................would be worth waiting to see the Korum equivalent!

Graham,
What you don't see in the picture is the breadth across the head and shoulders, it really was chunky, much bigger than the 14plus fish I had from the Kennet, really powered upstream too, against a pretty full on flood flow...........they never cease to amaze me..........I guess you'll be out this week then

Cheers Crooky, will maybe give the Fox a miss if there is a fault with them. Justin, thanks for letting me know about the Korum. Mind you the Drennan handle I
have that was recommended on here is proving to be bullet proof. Did you catch anything today? You was in my chub banker swim when I left you!
Loddon levels at SE dropped about half a metre overnight and fining down nicely. In very good condition but hardly a soul about today. John |

John Glover wrote:Hi John, Yes... managed to bank a lovely 7lb barbel bang on 6pm after missing two other wrap around bites. One slight problem though... just as I got the fish over the bank the screw and spreader block snapped off on my new Korum "Super Strong" landing net pole! Luckily the fish was a few inches above the bank when this happened otherwise I would have lost net and fish together! So much for the "suoper strong" pole... not much use if it breaks on capture of its first barbel! Think I will be getting a refund tomorrow and hunting down one of those Drennan 3m beauties. Glad I managed to check yours today! Justin |
