It's strange Matt but I almost didn't go. I was reluctant to go on my own, not realising whether I would like or not.
Sorry to hear of your food poisoning. A few friends have had the same or similar bugs over the holiday period. It seems quite widespread. I am sure I remember hearing something about infected turkeys before Christmas, though there shouldn't have been any in the food chain.
You are right about both hobbies having much in common. The connection we have with angling I believe revolves very little around having a bend in the rod.
Deep down I think we have a connection with the soil, the sand and the gravel that our rivers flow over, indeed the water that flows down them also. The Lakes are no different, it's just easier to feel where the connection is.
I bought a really quaint book yesterday. Called 'A Lake District Miscellany', it is full of allsorts of facts about the Lakes. Very interesting!
As I said Matt, I am already thinking about when I can get up there next, at this time of year though I am thinking it may be a risk. Have there ever been any ground conditions which have persuaded you to stay in?
