I'm amazed that you got them to act so quickly, well done! I hope to get over and fish the Wandle one day, or even just come over and have a look.
You've made today's Evening Standard as well,

Great for the wandle!!! lets hope this is a precedent for any other major fish kills that are bound to happen in years to come. It seems to be avoidable but is
bound to happen. This money may wel restore this great river to a semblance of it former self before it was so industrialised and may well see a return to
natural banks instead of a concrete culvert!!!Well done to all involved, and if it is forthcoming an (undeserving) thanks to Thames Water for their prompt
admittance of guilt!! and a BIG thanks for their promise to put good all the damage that has occurred. Lets hope that with the help of this major player in the
water industry we can look forward to enjoying this river for many years to come. Again well done to all involved and lets hope Thames Waters compensation will
be the start of a great future for the river!!

I've finally got access to this site from work now.
I've not fished the Wandle in anger since the pollution but am hoping to get out over the christmas break. Anybody been recently? I'd guess with this cold weather that the barbel fishing has been slow but it's difficult to tell with the Wandle! Good news to hear that Thames Water have stumped up with enough to satisfy everybody - let's hope that in the forthcoming years the river can get back to close to where we were in the summer (which probably still wasn't anything close to the full potential). |

Hello Andy,
Good to see you back, it's John from MHP AC and the Wandle clean-up. If you look on the gallery, Andy Shaw is catching, but haven't seen a post from him. Well done to him and Wayne and Gingertel.

I saw those fish in the gallery - there's obviously some nice fish coming out. I'm hoping to be able to get out to spend a bit more time on the river
soon - I'd love to get in amongst the barbel but this time of year I find it hard to look beyond those lovely fat roach! I can't help feeling that the
cold weather that we've had recently will make the barbel nigh on impossible to catch - I hate to say it but we need rain. If we had grayling in the river
this weather would be absolutely perfect though! Let's hope!!
Maybe I'll see you out on the river over christmas John (by the way, I hope the children have got over their chicken pox). |

Some lovely fish in the gallery... Andy, hope you do get into those roach... it's reassuring to see we've still got some fish left?!
Merry Christmas to all who fish and care for the Wandle, and buckle up tight for 2008. Looks like being an exciting one by anybody's standards... |

Well done Wayne; I hooked (and lost) my first Wandle barbel today, trotting maggots around 2pm; it leapt around like a lunatic and threw the hook, right at
the end of the run. As the light level dropped, it was like flipping a switch with roach and gudgeon grabbing the maggots but no more barbel (or chub).

Happy new year indeed all. Still to land a wandle barbel, but banked a brace of stonking chub on Sunday smashing my pb by some distance. The first weighed in
at 5 1/2lb quickly trumped by a stunning 7lb 4oz specimen. I still can't beleive it!!!!

hi all. hey please can someone tell me which parts of the river are fishable ...i.e. where these fish are coming out from!?!? even before the pollution, i have
loked around poulters park, down to earlsfield areas etc - but i find it VERY fifficult to see where can actually be fished!! the river is either unreachable,
due to loads of overgrown bushes etc - or when i do find a spot that can get to, the water is literally about 6 inches deep!!! please if somewhere can point
me in the right direction as to where i can actually find a fishable swim with a chance of catching, that'd be fantastic!! many thanks! matt

Poulter Park has no fish in due to the pollution. If you've looked down to Earlsfield then you must have seen some areas where you can fish. I have fished
all the way down to the Young's Brewery. Keep looking and ye shall find. They are in there. Get yourself in the river if you can't bank fish. If you
have a spot which is 18 inches deep that's enough to cover the back of a big chub or barbel, and very often does! There are absolutely stacks of fishable
swims between Morden Hall and Earlsfield - they may not be comfortable and flat for a nice big chair but there are certainly plenty of places to fish. As to
having a good chance of catching that's up to you to use your fish finding skils. I remember that you posted a while back that you'd looked at Plough
Lane area - fishing after having crossed a park. There are fish there as I have caught roach, chub and dace there myself. The chub I've had there have been
over 3lb and there are also big eels and barbel. Catching barbel is not easy on the Wandle but if you put the hours in they will come.

Hi Matt just to reiterate what Pandy is saying below. It's sometimes worth having a mobile approach when hunting down the decent chub swims. Half an hour
or so a swim will soon sort out where they could be lurking. Had a decent chub 3lb 10oz on Sunday just before plough lane, after wandering along. I have found
that patiently sitting down is great in the summer but not quite so effective in the cooler months.
Good luck and tight lines! |
