It has a pleasant aroma when burning, it burns slowly and is better to carry around than your standard oil based firelighters. Maybe it should go in the compost, but it must be better to burn it than put it in land fill. A mate of mine uses a KK and it's very 'Chris Yates' he keeps it in the boot of his car and we only have tea in the car park. My local club prohibits the use of fires and I would say that it's an open fire. When I start using a barrow to get to a swim, I may start using a kk but for now I use gas in the summer and a Coleman multi fuel in the winter. I only boil water for my tea, but after this thread I may start cooking on the bank, I quite fancy a hot SPAM sandwich. The thought of grilled chicken with veggies intrigues me and may be part of my next season challenge package. DJ

How many times do I have to point out that the KK takes up less room than a gas burner? All this lot fits inside the kettle including 1.5 litres of water, a couple of BBQ fuel blocks and there is still enough room for any food to cook. All the ingredients for the chicken meal were carried inside the chimney along with everything shown here. The only things I can't fit inside are plate, dish and mug. You could overcome this by including a flask type cup with no handle and eat out of one of the pans. This is the KK including everything shown above alongside an equivalent gas outfit with just 1/2 litre of water. (The spare gas cannister isn't compulsory) As for rummaging around for fuel; You don't have to. Take a couple of pieces of BBQ log or some peat briquettes and you're ready to go. Just because it can burn twigs doesn't mean that you have to. No more than you have to drive over fields if you own a 4WD or swim the Channel when you first learn the dog paddle. I think this is the sticking point with most people. The aversion to collecting firewood. If you don't fancy spending two minutes gathering wood then think of it as a self-contained multi-fuel burner that outperforms gas and petrol burners especially in windy weather. The windier it is, the quicker the water boils. You can't say the same about gas burners. In fact the KK will boil when you can't keep gas lit. Just consider one point - if you ran out of fuel with a gas burner you would struggle in most instances to find somewhere selling gas canisters and it doesn't work with anything else. Run out of fuel with the KK and you will find it anywhere; paper, cardboard, firewood sticks, firelighters, BBQ fuel including charcoal, lighter fluid, cotton wool in all its forms, toilet tissue, the list is endless and you will find something in virtually every shop.

Your other points I accept, however with peat thingies you would not have to go foraging , nice as it is.Dry fuel every time.

I'd prefer the KK option I think. Nicepix - you ought to knock up a KK cookbook.

Posts: 215 (10/12/07 08:34) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Very impressive nicepix ! that chicken and pasta looks great, i,m also convinced that it takes up no more room than a burner ,water kettle ect.The problem i would have is i would be unable to cook inside a bivvy as you say worth taking for a whole days fishing ,but since i rarely fish whole days i will stick with my flask and sarnies for the short evenings and gas for the long nights carp fishing.

Rutters, if i could have my weedrake by early May that would be nice! i notice the cheque was cashed!!!!!!!
