Hows everyone else doing on the soar?
I managed to get down on monday however was quite dissapointing with only one out in a 5 hour session, mianly down to my frav peg being taken and i didnt have my usually groundbait mix but lost one within 30 hour of arriving and then nothing till an hour before leaving |

What's Happening? | ||
|
It's been a few weeks since my last visit ('by Cotes Mill').
Anyone been out lately or, at least, driven by it to see latest conditions? I did hear from a customer that it was "bank high" on Wednesday, although I imagine it has dropped right back by now. I was contemplating a visit next Tuesday, maybe near Barrow this time. Any general info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Roger PS Any encouraging news from you Steve? |

I havnt been out this week, but for the last two/three weeks ive only been able to get one out a session, which is far less than my 1 and hour usualy. So
monday might try roving (having had to before) however theres only a few pegs on the stretch i fish and if its busy down there you take what you can.

Succession of Blanks | ||

It's that time of year folks
Spent from 5.00 til 11.30pm last night on The Osiers for a grand total of two chub (both around 4lb each). This brings my total of blanks(I count them as blanks when no barbel caught) to date, up to an overall 10 out of 46 trips since June16 The river looked ideal with just an extra 2/3 foot of water, good colour and pace, but the temperature read a pretty cool 44F (the same as the Trent at Muskham when I blanked on Tuesday!!) I suppose it will take a week or two now for the barbs to acclimatise to those lower temps. now that winter seems like it's finally arrived. Still, it won't stop me having a go next Tuesday and Thursday.....you never know?! Anyone else been out lately, there's not been much in the way of postings recently. Cheers Roger |

I was contemplating a visit up to a "Loughboro' SAA" stretch on Tuesday.
Anyone seen the state of the river recently? Is it back within its banks yet or would I have to wade from the carp parks to a swim? Any up-to-date info. would be most welcome. Cheers chaps Roger |

Waiting Game | ||

Well, I decided on a visit to The Osiers yesterday thinking that levels might have been reasonable, BUT it was crashing over the weir like some British version
of The Colorado Rapids
Despite virtually paddling across the field to access the swims I fancied, the river was actually within its banks (just!). I baited up a couple of swims and settled down at about 4.00pm with the water temp. reading a passable 45F and air temp. of 41F. I felt that after about 3 hours with no action (on two rods) that it was going to be a l...o..n...g night Finally, at around 8.15, the tip of my favourite Elips pellet rod whipped round and I netted....a 2lb chub By 10.45pm I was beginning feel that my nice warm bed was calling..... and then I woke up at 11.20 with the resolve to have "one more cast", even though I'd originally planned to go at 11.00pm! By 11.45 I was wondering what on earth I was doing still here and that I should call it a night when I heard just one faint 'peep' on the alarm from my Elips rod in the next swim. Then it went again and just as I grabbed my net to go and investigate the peep turned into a full-blown screech and I arrived to slip my net under a hard fighting barbel of just 6lb 12 oz. At least I hadn't blanked. But I started to pack everything away except the second rod, and just as I had finished the tip was yanked around and I was attached to something more solid than before. Once it was in the net I had to dig out scales, unhooking mat etc. again and, quite pleasingly I eventually returned a plump 9lb 8oz torpedo to a river that had actually managed to drop about 18 inches during the whole session, whilst I also noted that the air temp. had risen to an amazing 46F! All-in-all a good final result , but why did they make me wait all night until coming on?!!! I suggest you guys get out there a.s. a.p. while these mild spells are still being forecast for the next few days. Cheers Roger |

Hey Roger
Ive been out today, for the first time in like a month, maybe even two. What can i say, River up 1-1.5ft but has been higher looking at the state of the banks. Temp i dont know. Flow quite strong (3oz only holding 1/4 of the way out). Very nicely coloured. I did manage to catch so im happy a lovely 9lb 8oz Barbus, even if it did take 3 hours to get it and nearly loosing it. Im out on sunday aswell so ill give u an up to date update on sunday night. Phil

And thanks for the info. Sounds promising, so far. I shall wait with keen interest for the 'debrief' of your Sunday sortie. Hope you get an even better result! ATB Roger |

No problem Roger
Hopefully, however looking at weather, its going to drop down to 0 in the night, when thursday night was around 6. Anyway might as well try, got the day off work so aint going to waste it lol. Ill try and find my thermometer (if not ill steal the one from the aqaurium) and get you some temps throught the day. I can even ask my mate on monday what the soar like as he lives on a canal boat on the soar, if i remeber that is lol. |

No luck personal today Roger. although my dad did foul hook the same fish i caught on Friday.
Temp was 8oC at 12 and didnt rise at all really. Rivers down a foot since Friday and is alot slower but still needing 4oz in middle. Still nicely coloured however it wasnt as coloured on Friday. Just looked on BBC weather and it doesnt look good Tuesday, -2 on Monday night. |
