Posts: 20 (27/10/07 20:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	what rod are you planning to attach a 6oz screw in tips to? surely they dont produce a rod (with a threaded tip ring) which will balance a tip of up to 6 oz hence why you can only go up to 3oz i use a 1.5 oz screw in quiver on a old diawa cavalier rod and what happens is the tip bend completly round so it is really not there so doesnt affect the playing of a fish you start putting 6oz tips on... it just isnt a balance rod and i would imagine you would lose more fish than you bank up the city!!!!!!!! precious

Posts: 26 (28/10/07 22:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	galeus thanks for the link i think they are slide in tips but will ring on monday precious i agree in theory if you went too heavy with the tip it could over balance the rod but i dont think 6oz is enough to do this although im not sure i want to go that heavy anyway it just seemed that 4-6oz was the next range of tips up from 1-3oz gasman i think my rod tips are way over 6oz but i may be wrong on my quiver tip rod the top 12-18"long of 4oz rating will bend its full length to 90deg approx with a 4oz weight on the end of it but 4oz on the end of my 1.25tc will no way pull the top 12-18" of rod around 90deg even 6oz on same rod will not pull the top 12-18"of rod around 90deg either and the rod i intend to use with the quiver is a heavier rod so i dont think any of my rods got a 6oz tip id say they are much more ill be using a 1.75tc approx(modern rating) rod and even with a 6oz i think the quiver tip will bend round way before it effects the playing action of the rod all im trying to do is make my rod tip more sensitve but not too sensitive hence im looking for 4oz or over i know drennan market a quiver tip rod with 3,4,6 and 8oz slide in quivers they give no test curve rating but say use lines 6-10lb so i guess this would be 1.25 to 1.5lb tc approx but all the quivers fit into the same rod tip so as ive said im sure the quivers will bend way before the rods playing action comes into force if anyone whose a quiver tip expert can shed some light on this then please comment as if ive got this all wrong you may save me searching/buying the wrong thing edit: just to clarify im not looking at putting 18" long quiver tips on my rod the above is just an example on the rating and how i understand it the ones i am looking for will probably be 8-10" max or even shorter if i make my own which i will probably do thanks gary gary (aka madasacarp-cemex) Last Edited By: garyc41 29/10/07 09:24. Change the tip ring on your rod so its an snug over fit, ie you can keep it on there with no whippings. Then if purchase one of the drennan 6 oz tips, and provided it is hollow, cut it down so it fits over the tip of your rod when the tip ring is removed. This would also be a snug fit. Then you can use your rod with no quiver, or if you need to you can remove the rods tip ring, slide over the quiver tip, and away you go.

Posts: 119 (29/10/07 18:54) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The Drennan rod you speak of is the 12' 10" Barbel specialist, the TC qouted is 1lb 10 ozs, though they say that the rated TC increases with the tip used. I have one of these rods, and i can reassure you that it has ample backbone and power to spare, all with a forgiving top, if you can find one grab it, The stiffer tips do affect the rods action, coming nore into play as the rating increases. I think that the 3oz tip probably isnt worth using on that rod. Also all Drennan quivertips are solid. The other thing you should take into account is that the rod you are using wasn't designed to have a tip of that stiffness fitted to it, and the resulting outcome will be ugly, in as much as your rod top will come into 'play' long before the lower end of a 6oz quiver, thus spoiling the true action of the rod. If you really think that you need a 6oz quivertip, you really probably dont need one at all, 'cos they are bl***y stiff! Hope this helps Andy

If you are capable of fitting a tip ring back onto a quivertip then a quick way to achieve a 6oz screw in quiver would be to cut off some of the thin end of a 3.5oz tip. Maybe remove an inch to start with and see what you get, and only taking off very small amounts after that.
