Afternoon All,
I went for a walk yesterday with one of my mates and his dog down Bilton woods and stumbled across a stretch of the River Nidd. I've lived in Harrogate for over 15 years and never realised that the river was that close to my house!! Has anybody ever fished this stretch? If so, are there any fish to be had? Any info would be great as i live about 10 minutes drive from there. Thanks, Tim |

Hello Tim . I don't know the stretch . I have been advised that the Barbel population is not as great upstream of Walshford ,[ where the A1 crosses the
river ] . However there are barbel around , certainly in the Knaseborough area . I do know from Bryces comments on this thread that they have been caught as
far upstream as Ripley . Without a map I do not know where these places are relative to the stretch you are referring to . Hope this helps

Hi Tim, I can't vouch for them as far up as Ripley, but certainly they are at the "sawmills" which is about 3 miles downstream. Not the easiest
of fishing as it is low and clear for a lot of the time as Nidd flood water is collected in the reservoirs above Patley Bridge. I fish on a Knaresborough
Piscatorials ticket on the opposite bank to Bilton. I'm sure if you went into the tackle shop in Starbottom they would advise you.

I think you may mean Harrogate Angling Supplies, Starbeck near Harrogate.

Sorry Bryce , didn't mean to mis quote you , I just remember you posting at one point about one of your Nidd trips and Ripley was mentioned . Go steady on
those banks now !

The Barbel were feeding today aswell mike
But I only got into the Chub though, i'd have gone home happy with that. The Barbel were coming out to maggots. |

Glad to hear it , I think the imminent rain should stir them in to life , lets hope so . Tight lines if you are venturing out
