Check out Scuba's article in the "Articles" section
for
lot's of sound advice.
My best advice would be to get out as often as you can when it's flooded as the fish will feed to differing degrees depending on the prevailing conditions. E.g. they may go seriously on the munch when the river is on it's way up or wait until the flood peak or really go for it when it's starting to fine down. So try to get out ans sample different water levels and find out what's best for your stretch of river.
Cheers

cheers graham for the advice, i never fished through a winter before been a little bit of a fair weather kind of guy ( except piking in a winter ) looking
forward to this year and giving it a bash
cherrs pete ps do you find water temp to be a major/key factor ?

On the subject of flood fishing, just make sure you check the tempreture, what can look like great conditions may be freezing cold water coming down, happens a
lot on the severn, when the fishing can be killed stone dead.
A rising river with rising tempreture, you cant go far wrong, as for bait, take your pick, pellets, glugged boilies, paste, meat in all its different forms. Dont forget to put a float stop six footish up the line to kep any debris off. Well worth a go, nothing like catching a barbel out fo ten foot of raging floodwater

Had a short session yesterday at Lucy's Mill...lovely afternoon's weather was, unfortunately, the highlight....
Two big-ish snotters (4lb and 5lb) and a small common in five hours but no sign of boris or Mr Chubbly.... Torrential rain this morning, could have stirred things up a bit if anyone is planning a visit today or tomorrow. |

hi ian
have to agree mate been slow had 2 barbs in about 9 trips 1 double and 1 at 7lb 15oz have fished all over the avon from wasperton down to evesham and beyond and struggled since the floods but with luck this rain will get things on the move caught a few before the floods , lots of theorys going round about what the floods have done and fish moving etc etc if it was easy it would be no fun at all

Evening all,
Just had a session a few miles below welford and the river is still crystal clear and running low. It stopped raining at lunchtime so doubt enough water has gone in to make a difference
Good to see a few of the 'old regulars' posting again. It's been awfully quiet on here this season. With regards to how peoples seasons are going, the fish are still there you just gotta find em I am 3 times up on the
amount of barbel i had this time last season![]()
All the best for the Winter guys
Cheers Lewis

Lewis and Malc, glad to hear you old boy's are still about, agree with Lewis, the fish are still there and in better condition than ever for the time of
year, they are also holding there weight so lets have none of these excusses since the floods they have moved, total rubbish, what has changed is thier feeding
habits, change yours and you may have a few more.
best of Dave C

Talkin' of old boys... Malc's not that old anyway Dave... I think the the Avon in comparison to the Severn has fished fairly well this season, and although they are very different rivers in nature, they both suffered similar amounts of rainfall in the same period. Winter will be very intesesting and I reckon a few records will be getting smashed! |
