Hope so John. The rain's got to help. I won't be out this weekend, but I do hope you get some nice ones in whichever swims you fish.

Anyone planning to fish bits of the Colne on or adjacent to Staines/Stanwell Moor might want to check their club websites or their emails. DEFRA has closed one
of the stretches I fish as of 9pm tonight as part of the foot and mouth containment measures.

Good evning all
As of 9 pm tonight the BRPS stretch of the Colne fom the footbridge by the carpark and all the way down stream to Staines Moor, will be shut to all access, this is due to the local foot and mouth outbreak, as soon as we have more info from DEFRA as to when we can re-open it i will post on here or keep checking the BRPS web site for updates. Good evening all
A further update to the BRPS stretch of the Colne As of today the whole of the BRPS stretch of the Colne including the Hithermoor flood releife lake is closed to all public access, including fishing. This is due to a local farm having an outbreak of foot and mouth. Darren kent BRPS |

The twenty-three-minute-long bite...
Picked the rod up after its tip had been intermittently tapping and nodding for five or so... Felt, through my line-holding fingers, that something decent was occasionally at the bait... Then, after 23 mins near as damn it, a screamer... A beautiful, long, 17-06 common that thought it was a mahseer (particularly as all it had disagreeing with its desire to reach the Thames was a 1.25lb TC rod and a centrepin). Another "Thank you, God" fish for me - the river isn't easy at present. I sat upon the shore

Paul,
I though that at least 1 colnster would have praised your patience in letting such a slow bite develop, and what a beautiful end result! might not have been what you were after but a fine fish. I bet it gave you a good fight on that lightish rod, Best Barbel John Look ye also while life lasts. |

yes - great result paul. esp on that lighter set up.
i'm hoping to be out on friday. work full on 'til then - paying penance now for my riverside summer.... |

My standard Colne rod, that one - an old carbon-kevlar that I can bend into a fish until both its and my pips squeak, knowing that it
won't pop and suddenly become a five- or six-piece on me. My standard, slimline 1.75lb and 2lb rods, plus a stalking stick, only get a day out if the water
or the snags are particularly big. Only posted a report about my carp last night because of the manner of its capture. Small-river carp can be a lot more
finicky (cleverer?) than barbs - as I found out last summer when I found two pods of fish, some whackers among them, that, for "I think I'm about to
have a nervous breakdown" week, made a mockery of my usual (barbel) rigs, picking baits up in full view, repeatedly tweaking the line, blowing the bait
out, munching merrily away at anything unattached to a line etc.
I sat upon the shore

WHAT?????????????? You caught a carp and never ate it????? You must be the only person on the Colne in the last few years to have done that!!!!

Nice day for fishing. Kingfishers fishing the shallows, and the quietest little Robin for company. Released a 6lb Barbel back into the sunlit shallows

Nice day - but a tricky one to be fishing. Lots of clag round the line. A dance of Leaves |
