Looking at buying a new rucksack for the coming season. I need it to big big enough for flask, tackle, reels, bait and scales.......Don't want it to be too hefty, just right to fit in all my bits for a long session on the river. Any suggestions? Thanks Paul |

hi paul, i've just bought a 120 ltr ultimate culture one for only 29.99 never mind your flask mate i can get my stove kettle and all my tackle in there

Paul,I have just purchased a new Korum rucksack and to be honest it`s the best rucksack i have ever had,Seems to be well thought out and designed for fishing.

Can't seem to be able to track down the last thread re rucksacks. Been looking at the Nash Nomad 55. Any comments on this?
How about the Nash Pursuit Speedload 90lt rucksack - May be a bit on the large side? Ta Paul |

I think there is a smaller speedload (about 60 lt), sure a mate has one. I am thinking of getting a little un for barbel fishing and a biggun for long sessions elsewhere - and just swap the pouches over etc...
At the moment i am using a Wychwood Ruckman (light?) and it's ok, but not the most comfortable on a long hike. Andy |

I have a chub 55 ltr, 3 big pockets and pouch inside the top flap. Very comfy, I like it a lot and it's a rucksac type with decent straps and waist and chest straps. Leslies 39.99 But, and its only a small but, it doesn't stand up in its own right, and all those straps get in the mud. Having said all that I'd buy another for sure. I have a 20 litre wychwood holdall for light work, the chub for longer sessions, and a 100 ltr JRC mega-combi (with added caryall which clips on the top) which I bought for long hauls but wonder if I'll ever use it in truth, especially now i have a van. paul4 |

Thanks for the replies. Seem to have my heart set on a Nash Nomad for some reason. Not sure whether to go for the 35l or 55l. Just want it for carrying:- Tackle, rig pouch, bait, flask, food, scales, sling, book.............. Would a 35l be sufficient or shall I just go for the 55l to be on the safe side? Ta Paul |

I Got a Nash Nomad 35
To be fair- it aint all that- it sits too high on your back and digs in on longer hikes. Also has an annoying habit of topling over when on the ground with a few things in the top mesh pocket. The quickload wallets are great however. I got a Drennan 35 on ebay, which has side pockets that hold the nash wallets. Perfic. Looked at the Nomad last year but eventually decided on a TFG which I think was only rated at 30 litres but was much bigger than the Nomad which was tiny in comparison. I can't knock it atall, waterproof, well made, hard base etc and has plenty of pockets in the right places, plus it is comfy to carry. The expanding top takes it up to 50 litres and is ideal for stuffing in extra clothes, food etc for longer sessions. I think there was a BFW review in the reviews section with pictures.

Got a TFG jobby. Not to impressed. Wet can get in through sides and extending bit gets in the way when not in use also find it a bit uncomfortable to carry.

Thanks for the replies........... Last season I had a fox bag for all my tackle and a bit of bait, a quiver for rods, brolly, bank sticks, unhooking mat etc.......and my chair. The flask was flung in the quiver with alot of other bits. With all this on my back I just don't feel comfortable and find the long trecks a nightmare. I would love to get the right balance, which may be a rucksack on my back, chair over shoulder and rods/landing net handle bundled up and carried by hand. What do most of you do? Ta Paul |

For most of my fishing I use my Wychwood holdall slung over a shoulder, carry my chair and attached bait bucket in one hand and either carry rod/landing net in th eother hand, or use a Drennan specialist quiver over the other shoulder if I also want my brolly.
Now the dilemma. For longer treks, or sessions, I'll use my Chub rucksac, but with a rucksac on my back I cannot also have a rod holdall or quiver with any comfort. So for these sessions it's carry the rod and landing net - the umbrella is then the problem. Did attach a webbing strap to my brolly and that's fairly successful as it does clip to my rucksac straps, but no chance with my overnighter. Always a problem, hence the thread I guess. So I'd summarise and say rucksack on back, chair in one hand, and loaded quiver (incl brolly and rod and landing net) in the other hand. paul4 |

I carry a Korum rucksack new for this year anyone who has not got one should check it out as great bit of kit.
wychwood light chair and a 12 ft shimano rod sleeve to carry my made up rod in and strap my net and net handle and rod rest to. Thats my tipicle set up for fishing on the Bristol avon. Cheers Andy |

I have got to say you cannot go far wrong with the Korum stuff,its perfect for Barbel Anglers,the rod bag too is a spot on peice of kit-I used to use a quiver until I scratched a rod so i gave it to pa in law....
Two rod holdall will hold two rods,brolly/shelter,pod/sticks,and landing net and handle all secure inside out of harms way and just unzip and go. Rucksack is a bit cumbersome but makes up for it with the amount of pockets and its build quality it stands up on its own and is rubberised on the bottom. Ruckie on your back ,rod back off one shoulder and a chair under your arm and you can be equipped for a long session or a nighter. If you are a one rod man then dont bother,just a chair a small bag and a rod and net-sorted! Regards Matt hope this helps |

A question. If you have a rucksac on your back, how do you also have a rod holdall on one shoulder? Do you have the strap over and the holdall UNDER the arm? paul4 |

bought myself a drennan super specialist quiver and rucksack last season three outside pockets lots of room inside for your gear plus zipped pocket inside flap
quiver has outside pockets for two made up rods another for banksticks plenty of room inside for brolly,net, and pole good value and easy to carry. Lightweight chair with u/mat inside carried with shoulder strap. all i need now is a good pair of walking boots! cheers john |

Paul,
That is a good question and one that I don't have an answer for. Years of paddling rafts down the Wye have left me with disproportionably large trapezius muscles, (sloped shoulders), which means that anything I try to carry over one shoulder invariably slides off after a few paces, believe me it is frustrating in the extreme.

So what we really need designed is a rucksack that you can put on the front of your body a bit like the ones the women carry the babies in.
Then you can put your rods and chair on your back. There has got to be one out there allready. Mind you you would need some weight on your back to stop you eating dirt. |

Not of massive capacity but gone over to this and apart from when I want to carry massive amounts then found it very good - especially when used with a quiver.

I manage with Rucksack, Quiver - strap over shoulder and quiver under my arm, and a nash Nomad chair over t'other shoulder. leaves both arms free for buckets/water carrier etc...
