Posts: 1035 (09/10/06 07:42) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Thinking of getting some Lead Moulds and making my own Leads in the summer. 1oz and 2oz in a gripper style.(with the hole in middle great for plugging with paste) Any help on were to buy from and get the powder to coat with would be a great help. There must be a lot of you what make your own out there and any tips on the best way to do them would be helpful Working on the building sites scrap lead is easy to got hold of and you do loose a fare few over a session. Posts: 1767 (09/10/06 12:37) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Powder coat looks all nice and good in your hand but try collecting some of the gravel/sand from the river bed that you are fishing, have done this myself dried it out, stick it on your leads with aradite, blends in with the river bed a treat...clive...

Pike are no where near as clever as barbel and Pike are riduculously easy to catch. Live bait, dead bait, wobble, swish plop, will take any Pike with ease. When its freezing cold a stupid Pike will always turn up but you just try catching a big barbel at these times matey. Regards, Lee.

Posts: 2473 (09/10/06 20:09) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	1) Heat the moulds well before pouring any lead into them. You don't want them cold or (God forbid) wet, otherwise you will get spat upon with molten lead. 2) Melt lead in a thick-bottomed old saucepan. Transfer and pour the lead in a metal ladle with a pouring lip (heat the ladle and bang a lip into it with a hammer if it doesn't already have one). 3) Wear a plastic eye-protector (available Wickes or similar). Ditto good, thick gloves. Ditto old trousers and shoes (amazing how much a tiny drop of molten lead hurts a bare foot...). 4) Moulds tightly held together with cheap D-clamps - Wilkinson's sell cards of three clamps; doubtless Poundshop,too. 5) Don't be tempted to cool a mould and its lead contents by quenching it in the sink or under a running tap - snap, crackle, pop is best done by Rice Crispies. Take things slowly at first. Don't rush. Molten lead will find a way of getting you, somehow, if you rush. So, a few tips. I'd dull your leads, or Anchor powder coat them, though, as pike grab shiny ones when bored...
