Posts: 148 (22/05/08 18:14) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None hi, luckily my birthday coincides with the start of the season. i would like a rod to hide in the boot of the car, thinking of the greys 9'-12' stalker. if anyone has any experience of this rod could they advise on action , usable line strengths etc. looks like it would manage a bit of bass spinning too? many thanks , dave

It's a nice rod. Does not feel like a multi piece rod. I dont know if it will handle really big fish but ok so far. It is available for around £69.00 and can handle lines to 6lb. Kev.

Any of the other Harrison 4 piece ones would be as good. you have not said what type of fishing it's for?

Posts: 561 (22/05/08 22:02) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Dave, I purchased the Greys 9'-12' stalker rod last year for the same reason, comes as a 4 piece rod, although it looks more like a carp rod of about 2.75lb, the rod has a progressive action with a nice sensative tip and loads of power through to the butt, doubled up with a pin its great for roach and skimmers, no worries about hook pulls, a very versatile rod and I would reccomend it. Greys also produce it as a 9' but for me the 9'-12' is better suited to my requirements as I never quite know where or what I will be fishing for. The great thing about Greys rods is that little hook ring, makes moving around swims easier hooking up the rig, I really dont like putting hooks through the legs of the rings of a rod, always a chance that the hook point will blunt with the lead bouncing around. I also bought the Shimano Tribal stink net sleeve, this accomodates the rod, a bank stick, 36" landing net and 6' telescopic handle all kept neatly together in the back of the motor, a small bag with some rig bits a reel and some bait and your sorted. With the sections just 30" long, the Travel Barbel will easily fit into a suitcase or lie out of sight in the boot of the smallest car. Supplied with 2 top sections: A 1.75lb standard tip and a 3oz spliced in quivertip. Bargain for the price you paid smurf. A lot of rod for that money. Lovely fish playing action. I wouldn't rate it as a spinning rod for bass though. I use the shimano 3500b or a wide drum Speedia on mine and they both fit without needing to pad out the reel foot, but I had heard it had been necessary for some other winches. Greys rod does look nice though and at around £80 you probably can't go wrong - particularly if you also want it for spinning. The Shimano Exage travel spin rods might be worth a look. I use their Medium Heavy and Heavy models for floater fishing for carp and stalking barbel in the margins. Good for both. And of course for the purpose it was originally intended - working lures. They look somewhat similar to the Greys, but that's just from glancing at pics online. Harrison Triptych also a lovely rod. Well worth considering, but not as versatile at a 9-12 foot model. All this pondering serves to remind me that I have far too many rods in the garage.

To say I'm pleased with the rod would be a real understatement it seems to have just the right mix of softness but with real underlying power when needed. Barbeldoctor your right alot of rod for the money i paid, i was very lucky with the price, i was bidding at the last minute on a rod that didn't have the reserve met, my bid also didn't meet the reserve but my bid was the highest. I was contacted after the auction to see if i wanted it for the price i bid. I wasn't aware that ebay allowed this so checked the rules fearing a scam, it was all above board so went for it and am very pleased that i did. Only down side as previously mentioned is my reels, shimanos & a fred crouch jet ariel, don't fit very snuggly, if anyone has good tips for semi permantly padding out the reel foot i would apreciate it.
