For me, it's would be to stop the Matchman Nutter with the Chain saw, who insists on removing the fish cover from every swim he comes across ?

If you had the power to change one thing in Angling, what would it be ?

Bob, have to dissagree a smidge there mate, I am a matchman as well as me speci fishing, and it aint allways us.
Most matchmen love the cover of all things said and would much prefere to draw a peg with a good old tree half submereged or a long line of rushes or brambles down the swim. Its mostley the Local River Authority beeing written to by the navigation people out there (ie) boat users saying due to trees and submereged branches its becoming un navigable and could sctratch by boat and if it does i'm going to claim off you. Threr was a case of this on the Teme some years ago at Broadwas, beutifull overhanging trees all down the stretch "canoeists do a few letters and bang their gone", same at Cotheridge. So take some pitty on us matchmen mate it aint all ways us.

Persuade the EA to spend more of the £16 millon gained from licences,to prosecute those without one.And if we dont tax our car,it can be crushed,so do similar
with offenders tackle.
Thatll teach em,as getting your tackle, crushed, can be very painful |

rb,
Sorry, this was not a dig at Matchmen in general, but a Matchman, who is on a our Club committee. He is also in charge of the Clubs Chainsaw (how I will never know) and seems to have a wish to remove any cover on our stretch of Barbel River. I know it's not an EA request, because the clubs either side of our section have kept the cover, where of course all the Barbel, Chub, Carp, Roach, Dace and Trout have headed for ? Bob |

I would like to see unity within our ranks, covering all aspects of our sport, that would give us the power to
stand and fight instead of bickering between ourselves.
You only have to read the above posts to see the problem. No offence to anyone who has posted the above posts, but you see my point. Steve |

His miserableness wants rid of the Drennan cup but doesn't explain himself.
Why does he think it is a farce? My one wish would be to take the negativity out of anglers and sprinkle them with positive thoughts, perhaps then our sport would be a better place. |

The question was what would you change ? dosen't say you have to explain !! Its far too close to home to go spouting off on an internet forum ! Suffice it
to say that IMO its lost its way over the years.

Miserableness,
I believe I know exactly where you are coming from and was alluded too by another poster inhis post about celebrity Anglers. I don't think that is anything to do with Drennen or A.T., as they have to take the returns on good faith, but it does make you wonder why some people will go to such lengths ? Bob |

You got it Bob ! Unfortunately once they introduced a financial incentive and a nice silver pot then they inadvertantly spawned a certain number of Bounty
hunter type big fish anglers, you know what i mean, set out every season to win the Drennan cup, won't fish anywhere that dosen't contain fish big
enough to win a Drennan, once one target is caught and paid for then its off to the next circuit water and so on. If you've been around the big fish scene
for long enough then you will know what i mean.
The saddest thing i've ever witnessed was a Guy who had just caught a very big Tench ( 10lb plus) his first words were " Thats a Drennan " now how sad is that ? it was too ,fish was sacked ,AT rung, and back out with the rods ! true story that. It was never like that at the start when by and large the trophy was awarded for a single fish and was judged on merit as well as pounds and ounces. Well thats as i see it, if you want to disagree then fire away !! thats what a forum is for. |

Miserableness,
I think it should just be about a Pot- No Money And I don't believe some of these Money Chaser's would bother. It's a very sad situation and some of the fish returned seen to have been weighed on Elastic Scales ? Bob |

Bob, in the old days the Angling Times used to pay for exclusive stories , its a newspaper after all ,so they should ! this was more or less scrapped at the
onset of the Drennan cup, that became the financial reward for anyone catching a huge fish and in most cases keeping it exclusively to the AT ( It does help if
the Anglers Mail don't get the story !) As for the elastic scales, i couldn't possibly comment !

Steve,
Spot on post. If we are to achieve unity then we need to stick to the facts rather than received anecdotal wisdom that has been handed down verbally and is often well wide of the truth. I have spent time as a matchman as well as a fluff flinger and a speccie hunter and I feel that I am the better angler for it. There are idiots in all branches of angling and it saddens me that all too often it is their antics that are used to tar the rest. At heart nearly all anglers are the same; we just love catching fish, and its for this reason that i think unity is possible...............but it will only happen if we reallly want it. Love Tinca |

Tougher laws on immigrants taking fish, using set lines and nets. More bailiffs to actually do something about this and someone on the end of the phone who
actually cares when you ring the Environment Agency
