Magnetic Hook Cases |

There are a few cases for hooks out on the market that have magnetic bases in them. Obviously, these are a good way of retaining hooks in an orderly fashion but I'm a bit aprehensive as to whether a magnetised hook could put off a fish?
Has anyone any experiences or thoughts on this subject? |

Maybe it attracts them
I can't see how it can have any effect. As far as I am aware, most fish don't use any electro-magnetic 'systems'. I'm ready to be corrected though regards Mike W |

I believe Mike Wilson (of the WBC/Thames thread) went down the electro-magnetic road when fishing Savay in the 70,s. I think I,m correct in saying he used glass/crystal chandelier pieces as casting weights, in order to alleviate any possible electrical fields that may put the fish off !
Nothing to do with hook cases, but maybe he,ll look in and let us know his thoughts. Time spent in recconnaissance is seldom wasted....

Magnetic hook boxes. | ||

Hi, many moons ago I was told that magnetic hook boxes had a tendancy to make the hooks rust (!) Dunno if that's true mind..

I use one and had no problems with my catch rate or hooks rusting. I just pit a few grains of rice in each compartment to absorb any moisture. Works a treat.

Some good replies so far guys, thanks for that. I know we often think that things we do can have an adverse affect on our catch rate but seeing as the hooks do become magnetised, I tought it was well worth exploring the question.
I am sure there must be one of those little demagnetiser tools around somewhere anyway. |

I've been using magnetic hook boxes for years and I catch plenty of fish, I don't think that any of the hooks have become magnetised as a result of being stored in the box anyway.
As for rusting, put a couple of grains of rice in each compartment to draw any moisture away from the metal, job done. |

I use a double sided one it's great,no problems with catching or spilling expensive hooks on the bank either.

My understanding is that one of the reasons coated leads were developed was to avoid the potential electro-magnetic charge which could develop between (I think) hook and lead. I have to say that much as I also love carp and (some) carp anglers I thinks its one of those 'b*ll*cks theories' developed by people sat in their bivvies with too much time on their hands!
