With the current cold spell curtailing my attempts at catching one of our be-whiskered friends, I was wondering just how bleak things have to be before barbel-fishing takes a back seat. I recall a photo in one of my early barbel books (possibly Trefor's & Tony's seminal title) of a very cold and bedraggled looking Ray Walton holding a small barbel taken whilst snow lies all around him. Is it worth persevering in these type of conditions? What has been the worst conditions one of the BFW members have taken a barbel in? Has anybody caught having had to break the marginal ice first.
Just looking to get a bit of encouragment and enthusiasm to help drag myself down to the banks for another inevitable blank. It's that or decorate the back bedroom! Alternatively I could always take up chub fishing ;-)
