Just opening the new thread with a good luck wish to all fellow Loddon anglers, I look forward to seeing all the people I know out on the banks and meeting
others I don't know yet.
Tight lines all, the river is looking perfect at the moment.

You just need to drag yourself out of your pit a bit earlier and there
is an open ended invite!

Gavin,
When Chubby says earlier, he means before October...........so no illness, Yuppie Flu or executive stress this year please!!! Regarding best swims, I seem to remember a number of occasions I couldn't get into a favourite swim last season after pointing you in the right direction once!!! Good luck mate, hope you beat your PB this year, a 6lb fish must be on the cards!!!

I think you are being a little harsh. After all I've got a proper job.
Mr Crook I seem to recall numerous occasions last season when you didn't put in an apprearance until half way through the day and well after the fish had stopped feeding. Although I do appreciate how long it must take to load
and lug all that state of the art gear.
As to Chubby well I think you must be an insomniac. Although I guess Pikies are used to sculking about in the dead of night. A 6lb fish - I can only dream!
Gavin PS Let's wait and see who makes it to the river first on opening week shall we?

I'm being maligned and verbally abused and the season hasn't even started yet - glad to see nothing here has changed then.
Mind you they're all called Ian so what can you expect (always thought that was a pretty dodgy name ).
In response to some of these outrageous comments: Afraid of the dark? I have every reason to be - have you seen Crooky after dark? All hair, fangs and camo - a gruesome sight!
Crooky you were indeed kind enough to put me onto one of your favourite swims. However, because you and your brother-in-law (yet another Ian!) seemed unable to catch a cold in it, I was just showing you how it's done
Catching tiddlers ay - I recall I had 2 doubles to 12lbs in the last hour of last season when the Ian brigade were at home watching Cornation Street I'm delighted that the rivers are well up - perfect conditions! Gavin |

This is a great start to the new season, do you wish to offend all Ians on the boards or just the four of us??? Can't wait until the 16th, then we can physically abuse you too!!!! Don't forget your water wings............

River is on the rise again, with heavy rain forecast for Sat, Sun and Monday it will be absolutely steaming through and probably over the fields again by
Monday. Good luck to all, let's hope they are having it.

Just spoke to Crooky who is wandering the banks of the Loddon with his new pimp blue Oakleys on.
He's looking at a big group of fish who are spawning or getting ready to spawn. If that's the case on Monday they may not be too interested in feeding?
Gavin |

Just been watching a group spawning, a huge female, two double males and around 4 or 5 smaller males, really kicking up some silt, wonderful sight but as Gavin
says, a little late. I am guessing, like carp, they don't all spawn at the same time so there should be plenty around which have spawned over the past few
weeks and are hungry again.

well if your spawning report is anything like your weather report we should be in for a good day monday, no rain forecast next few days reading area, and they
were having the hemp and sweetcorn big time at swallowfield today. i think you two want the bank to yourselfs. hampton hill

Hampton,
Of course we want the banks to ourselves Great to see them spawning again, long way from Swallowfield though...............

"no rain forecast next few days reading area" Really?
Perhaps this link would help with the accuracy of your forecasts: http://uk.weather.com/weather/10day-Reading-UKXX0117 Not heavy rain, but Sunday and Monday looks a long way from "no rain".
As to wanting the bank to ourselves that would be nice, but hardly realistic on opening day. Anyway I think most on here know that rain and increased flow are usually good news and would encourage them to get out there rather than the opposite. One thing I know about Crooky is he is a straight as a die and if he says he saw them spawning then they were spawning. I saw loads of carp on a local lake last Saturday in full spawning mode, far later than usual. Just because you found a few feeding fish in Swallowfield (and yes they don't all spawn at the same time) doesn't mean they aren't spawning elsewhere. Have a great season. Gavin |
