Posts: 8 (04/04/08 10:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Just seen a bit in the paper today saying we are in for another wet summer with above average rainfall do you think this will be good or bad for fishing.The start of last season seemed good for the short term with high cocolate brown water but seemed to affect the rest of the season.Were the fish put off spawning or spawning later and if this is the trend for the weather in future years should the close season start later like mid april so the fish have time to spawn before we start chucking in our baits!!!!

Because we did loose a lot of the cabbages and weed on my local River were the Barbel love to hide away. I love the flood fishing and have some good fish when its up and coloured. As for Spawning i myself don't think it will not make much difference,as the fish will still no were the gravel bars are and seem to spawn in the same area each year. Mind you the Eggs may get washed away and that's not good for future fish. But that's only my point of view and my be wrong. Posts: 103 (04/04/08 13:26) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I dont take any notice of the long range forecasts, they cant get it right from one day to the next let alone months in advance! If i remember correctly after the really hot easter last year they aid we were going to have a long hot summer! i think they may have been a tad out! I am sitting here in glorious sunshine wishing i was on the banks but the weathermen are saying there will be snow sunday! Ijust hope we get a normal summer with a nice mix of rain and sun so that we get a variety of conditions to pursue our favourite fish in.

All these very long range predictions are just not worth the paper they are written on, who cares what might happen 3 months or more in advance, 2or 3 days is enough, gives us time to sort the neccessary stuff for the next trip. BUT if they are right, the lack of weed growth due to high ,coloured water will certainly have a detrimental effect, to not only fry survival, but it will interrupt the natural food chain, again, leading to another hard winter. Can,t change whatever the weather will be, but lets hope it is a lot more settled than last year. Peter

Everyone i've spoke to who fished various parts of the country was saying the fishing was poor compared to the norm. I think the weatherman has improved the forcasting over the last few years, probably due to new technology, the forcasts to me seem pretty accurate in the short term, i agree with Bazza though, i doubt whether the long range forcast can be any more than a calculated guess at best, i'll be interested to see if they're right, in forcasting another wet summer - i hope not Regards Ian.
