Posts: 1 (28/05/08 18:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I received information that a barbel weighing 14lbs 4oz was caught on the River Tees on the barbel alley stretch at Blackwell Darlington Even though the catch cannot stand as a record because it is closed season it provides mouth watering prospect for the fabulous 16th of June. Anyone know who bagged it or wishes to have an article published in the near future could you please contact me at http://fansonline.net/fishing I will gladly place a direction for other users to this website. Rumours were a 10lb chub was caught on the river last season, does anyone know anything regarding the rumour or able to provide a photo. Its closed season so why am I sat on my ar5e here being a good angler, when others are flouting the rules, again?? I bet you can't guess that it really hacks me off, its about my biggest bug to be honest. Why can't some people abide by the rules....? Its tanking with rain and the rivers will be coming up but I am not breaking the rules by going.....even if I really want to. I would give the captor zero publicity about the fish but instead name and shame this so called fisherman for being such a %^*&! I would certainly not try and publicise or glorify this person in any way. As for chub the Tees used to hold the record didn't it, somewhere around 8.5lbs if memory serves me right. A 10lb fish though is a different matter altogether. Julian

Posts: 88 (28/05/08 21:08) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	well the 10lb chub turned out to be a load of old b/s this just sounds like a wind-up to me but it's perfectly possible I suppose. 13lb odd is the record, caught from the same area, the same fish full of spawn could well make that weight, lets hope that it isn't now belly up in the margins somewhere downstream, although we don't know the circumstances of the capture for instance it could have been caught by mistake by a salmon angler, or perhaps more likely one of those trout fishermen who use pellets for bait, "well they are trout pellet guv." I'm in total agreement with Julian, this capture should not be given any publicity and why you would want to is beyond me. James

The barbel are just finishing spawning anyway. If it has been caught by a barbel angler on pellets or whatever then its just plain wrong. Why publicise it I just cannot fathom out! Trouble is that there are folk out there that just carry on fishing as normal. How to overcome that I do not know. If it was a salmon angler or a trout angler then I apologise, what a shock that must have been. Julian

Then sat here pi...d off i hear that a barbel record has been brokeis this in the papers anyone? because if it is this makes the EA look like a real set of monkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posts: 775 (29/05/08 09:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	tees record broken it maybe true or maybe not,but im one of the anglers who abides by the rules and dont fish the rivers over close season,i just hope the regulars help do there bit of keeping people away from the rivers over close season,i already knew that there is bigger barbel than the current record of 13lb as the lad who has the record lost a bigger fish a week before he got the record.now with it being close season i also know the rule that worm and fly can be used over close season, if someone can tell me this is true and ok to fish over close season with worm and fly then i may fish the rivers but not untill ive been told it is ok,i will be contacting my secretary of my angling club about fishing over close season but i cant see it being allowed, as for blackwell it is a free stretch and a public walk way and has been fished all year round for years so whos to say that a bigger barbel has came out in years gone by and noone has said anything.no doubt the barbel was full ov spawn,just hope its still alive, and not belly up somewhere,it annoys me a lot, that people are not letting the fish spawn and revive fish stocks while anglers who dont know the rules are still fishing hope they have a rod licence,and the locals dont catch up with them as there are a few on this site who are against fishing over the close season.when will this end probably never but as long as we pay our dues and do our bit then maybe the tees is a river to be keeping an eye on as me and ijakk will be fishing near enough every day of the first week of the new season hoping to land a few surprises.so good luck to all the tees guys for the new season tightlines of down the pond for a bit of carp fishing,done well over this close season had over 60 carp but it still dsnt give me that excitement of a fight from a barbel cant wait for the 16th.

Thats not the point again though is it, worm and fly to be used for trout fishing only, not to go and exploit a loophole where you can appear to be trout fishing with worms when in reality you're after the coarse fish or barbel in particular. I have seen anglers in the close season fishing with barbel gear but with worm on the hook, you cannot convince me that they are trout fishing. I think they should ban all baits even naturals like worms and leave it fly only, then everyone knows where they stand. Stella Fella you could be right, it might be a wind up. Then again maybe not! Most likely. Caught by salmon angler ? Possible, but since there has been virtually no spring run salmon up the tees for many many years and I don't know of any salmon angler that would even bother fishing for spingers on the tees then I'd give you the same odds on and salmon angler fluking it as I would give for pigs sprouting wings and taking flight. If it has been caught then it will most likely have been a supposed trout fisherman, with barbel rod and pellet, with perhaps a tub of half dead worms at the bottom of his rucksack, makes me want to puke, in truth if you can't trust these so called anglers to fish within the law, then how can you trust them to weigh a fish correctly you cant record has not been broken. Again agree with Julian any self respecting angler should stick to the rules as far as I'm concerned, even if it's within the law to fish with worms, fishing in known coarse fish areas with worms is a no no, it's a little unwritten rule that I abide by and others should to.

Cant grant you access to 14lbers but some very plesant fishing far away from the madding crowd, in places that you would be lucky to see another soul, let me know, i 'd be happy to join you on the banks anytime.
