Petzel filters - make a difference on the spook effect? |
Lead | |
|
I noticed in the latest Leslies of Luton catalogue that you can get green and red filters for the petzel head torches. Shining a light across my swim at night is something I generally try to avoid; however I was wondering if a green or red beam reduces the spook effect where fish are concerned?

Personally, I think the red filter is far less penetrating into the water than the white light.
Also, the dull red light is far less likely to be seen by other people at night--make of that what you will ! |

Dunno about the spook effect on fish but the red filter in place is an advantage to you because red light has no effect on your night vision.

I used the red filter torch all last season. Have been using a green filter this close season on the still waters. The red is far better. It also doesnt seem to spook the fish anything like white light.
Only disadvantage is I cant make out the contour lines on my map! |

once in place , can the white light be used , then the filtered lens ?
petzl did/do a head torch where the red filter flips down in the above mentioned way |

Such a cumbersome faff when you're sea-trouting and barbeling at night. However, I solved the problem sometime ago...

Simple solution get one of these about £10 used mine all last season in all kinds of weather still going strong, I've only had to replace the batteries once due mainly to me leaving it on in my pocket DOH!!!
www.energizer.com/product...cat=4&id=3 Red also has the advantage of not attracting every bug from a one mile radius to your head. |

Extremely valid point, made very well! Seven of nine, i believe! In fact why bother going fishing if you could get one of those fitted. Wurzel |

I did in fact have one of those fitted in a past life, the only thing I can do now, is go fishing!
