Vibram sole units are recognised as being among the best soles available for most types of boots. I have the Vibram Kalden sole on my Scarpas and its design is perfect for what I need - i.e., for scrambling up and down muddy riverbanks (I used them on the Teme a week or two ago after some rain and they were not found wanting, believe me) and generally just being an ideal sole for walking in. They are also very tough and usually outlast any other sole.

Dear all,

For the ultimate walking boots, check out the Scarpa Rangers (GTX lined ones). Unbelievably confortable, superb grip due to the Vibram sole unit and completely waterproof due to the full grain leather and GTX lining. A tad expensive at over £100, but worth every penny in my book.

If you decide to take the plunge and go for the baffins then you will need to go up a size as they are made for the american market.

Gonna submit a review soon so you should see a couple of pics.

As i said b4 they ain`t cheap but these are the first boots i`ve owned that have kept my feet warm and you can actually walk in them unlike the moon style boot.

Bob,
Halton Lea eh? Very posh (trying to shake off it's old reputation!).. I lived on Murdishaw between 75-80 (I think we were one of the first families to move there), then shared a flat on Southgate with a mate before moving South.. I wasn't much into fishing as a lad - I went once on the Bridgewater Canal in Warrington and blanked! Co-incidently I actually drove past the Shoppo (sorry - Halton Lea!) two weeks ago - first time in donkeys years!
As an aside - what's the fishing...
