We was round a friends house whos garden backs onto a nice stretch of the Kennet (good barbel area infact) and after a gathering of 20 odd people at the barbeque had left we decided to do abit of night fishing. Speaking of prawns - about 10 years ago I got a couple of these rubber prawns and signal crayfish from a friend. Like hollow rubber toys they were, I think they were some kind of american bass fishing lure that are apparently popular over there - he had some good results on them that lead to a couple specimen... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Nearest to I ever did on the Royalty to rolling prawns Derek was float fished prawns, dyed bright red, on a stainless pin mount (probably has a name but  I don't know what) and used in the top weir.<br>
<br>
But we were after Salmon with those tactics.<br>
<br>
If barbel had been likely to pick up the bait we'd have never used the mount.<br>

			<description><![CDATA[ I've been doing a bit of experimenting with jelly baits, mainly high fat deli meats, like peppered salami grated and mixed with mashed up cambells meat balls and a dash of flavour. Been considering liquidized maggots and minnows too. So far the chub love it, I've had a lot of sucess in coloured water, you can really pile in the flavours and make some really smelly concoctions. I think jelly is fantastic, you can really control the consistancy of your bait, with practice, which is something... ]]></description>

Chicken skins and bacon rind, are local common knowledge on that stretch. I first heard 20 odd years ago, tried it and yes it works. Also found garlic on luncheon meat worked just as well.<br>
