Hi All,

Whilst lurking on Fishing Magic, I read that Ron Clay opened up a thread called, "the barbel police". Predictably, some others came in including the site owner. One even told other to come to this site as there were loads of barbel policemen on this site. Fortunately, Johnty went straight in and put that guy right.

Anyway, I am a barbel angler. Have been since 1973 and a barbel only angler for quite some years. So, just who are these "Barbel Police"?

However there is a more serious side to this, which is what happens when you meet other anglers on the riverbank, who are fishing for barbel with woefully inadequate tackle? Do you just bite your tongue & walk away, or do you offer advice? I tend to opt for the former option,...

Some interesting comments guys.

Donkey's years ago, I caught an 11lb 2oz barbel from the Kennet. Could not claim it as a true catch however, I was trout fishing at the time you see. That fish fell to a black buzzer as I recall.
Nice post (as usual!). Isn't this just Barbel Snobbery? Each of us makes choices about the way in which we enjoy our angling. But what I object to is the way some people imply that their choices are in 'some way' better than yours. Who says?? What right do folks have to impose 'their way' on you? Would we enjoy it more - I doubt it - I'd certainly enjoy it less soaked to the skin in my 'hair shirt'.
