Hi all
Just to let you know there is a book out there called (original this!) "The Arun and Western Rother" by an author called Robert H Goodsall.
It was printed 1962, however just finished reading it and found its contents really absorbing and the pictures are very good and the info very useful.
Its not a fishing Book, but don't let that put you off, for those aquantited with the river(s)...

David,

BMP is fishable on Day Ticket (must purchase in advance) or you can apply to join the syndicate. I think we only have around a dozen members. Bank tickets only available for the Road Bank, or you can hire one of the three punts. As it is a SSI it is closed thoughout the traditional close season. Tickets available from David Hayler at Tripp Hill Garage, Fittleworth after June 16th.

Bruce - I don't belong to the Pulborough club, so can't tell you about their stretch, but have a look at my club's website http://www.sussexangling.co.uk/ - we've got three stretches, all of which have produced barbel. Send me a pm if you want to chat.

David - re Burton Mill, I haven't fished it but believe that there is a close season and that tickets are available from a garage on the road into Fittleworth - I'll try and find out more info and post...

I know this is completely un barbel related but...

Does anyone know how to get a day ticket for Burton Mill Pond.. Also, is there a close season or time restictions on the fishing? I gather ots mostly tench?

I've been living in Brighton for 2 years now and have been making regular trips back to fish the Severn. I am looking for something closer to home for next season and the Rother looks like a great little river. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best ticket to get? After a bit of research on the net, I know Pulborough AA have got a section but was wondering if that was a good bet for the barbel? Are they spread out throughout the river or...

Finally broke my Rother 'blank run' on Weds with 2 nice Chub from Fittleworth, biggest of which was a shade under 5lb.
My heart was in my mouth for a moment as it really did pull my string, and the thoughts of a first Barbel came flooding!
Still not managed to tempt a fish from Coultershaw, but it's a lovely venue and I definately learn something every time I fish it.

Fished from midday til noon on weds, first time visitng the Coultershaw stretch and despite the high water was very happy with what I saw!

No fish, just a couple of small plucks to pellet. Nice to meet a couple of fellow members though, both of whom were very approachable and helpful.

Stuck at work now for 6 days but i'll be back as soon as possible!

Ahh! That explains a lot, thank you!

I must admit I was starting to wonder where these two joined up!

I still fish the 'Eastern' now and again in the winter for the Pike but not for a little while now.
Off to Coultershaw tomorrow for a little look, if anything exciting happens i'll let you all know.

Think you may be getting your Rothers mixed up . The Rolvenden and Blackwall strectches are on the Eastern Rother, which unfortunately does not hold Barbel!!

Having just recently joined this great looking club i'm intending have my first trip down to the Rother next Tues, Weds and / or Thurs.
I've yet to set eyes on it but from the pictures i've seen it looks lovely!
I've fished the Rother for many years, but much further downstream on the Rolvenden and Blackwall stretches.
I'd consider myself an 'All-Round' Angler really, but for some time now the Barbel has alwyas been in my thoughts!

Petwroth & Bognor (AGM on Thursday evening, gents) control Coultershaw, Shopam and Fittleworth, check out their website. I think Pulbrough have a stretch of the Rother just up from it's confluence with the Arun.

Above Petworth I'm not familiar with the river at all.

As a resident of West Sussex and someone who enjoys a challenge I would be grateful if someone could advise me which clubs control relevant stretches of the Rother. I never publicise my catches or give indiscreet details so promise not to upset any apple carts.

Just checked that no-one else has started this one, so though I didn't post much last year, I thought I'd kick this off.

Good luck to everyone who fishes this lovely little river and lets hope we have a good season. I'll be on the bank fairly regularly, so say hello.

By the way, there was a very well-attended work party last Sunday that did some good work - interesting to see what difference it makes.
