Had a walk along various parts of the river this morning and it is looking lovely. Plenty of weed growth and a healthy flow. There was a tinge of colour, which didn't help fish spotting, but with the aid of some hemp, we encouraged a few into the shallower areas although they were mainly chub and roach. We did see one or two barbel, but I suspect they were hugging the bottom in the deeper water.
Didn't half whet the appetite!

Out last night, still no sign of Boris must of fished 10 swims. temp dropped very quick about 8 oclock. nowt to show for my efforts but Chub...... and times running out.

Also had a go, with a similar story! Just chub for me too, river was very lifeless, struggled for bites! Missed one barbel like rod wrencher due to lack of attention! Also spotted a coupla pink propellers in the clear water. Avon tomorrow i think!

Had my first ever dangle in the Marden today, more with chub in mind to be honest. I managed 6 in the end, up to around 3.5lb. What a gorgeous, intimate little piece of river though. I can just imagine it in midsummer when it's all overgrown and gin clear. Can't wait!

Evening All, a little late posting but tackled the marden Friday afternoon / evening, from 5 til 7 temp dropped 7 degrees, the barbel wernt having it but a couple of Chub did. one about 3.5lb. water temp was 7.7degs on arrival, not had a boris since September and its driving me nuts. never mind will crack on.

Had a go today and had a nice fat barbel about 5lb second cast.... downhill after that on the barbel front with just countless numbers of hard fighting chub, most of which were of a good size! A great days sport!!!

Hi all,
Not fished it since the start of Dec, so can't comment on levels etc. I would imagine, looking at the Avon, that it will be around 6-8 ins up and carrying a slight tinge of colour by the weekend. Could be slightly higher....
The recent fall in air temps will also have affected the Marden much quicker than the Avon as well.
It may be worth a go and if it has cleared enough for fish spotting, it will be interesting to see if the fish have moved back to their...

Hi all,
Had a quick 3hrs today 3-30 til 6-30 pm (first time for a couple of months). Fish were 'On The Munch' . Water temp of 52 and about 3-4 feet on !
Got wet, but happy ! The thunder and lightening, thankfully, stayed at a distance .

Hopefully it'll stay wet and...

Premier angling do tickets for the Calne stretch, as do T.K tackle in Calne itself. Season is about £20 i think and day tickets are probably about £3-£4. Not sure where the Wroughton stretch tickets are available from, but probably the same shops!
