I needed oxygen after legging it across that field! Hope to do more of it next season - you really deserved that one mate. Was a lovely fish to end the season with.

TA,It was the last fish off the season for me and i had my own personnal photographer there to capture the moment,he ran all the way to assist,i understand he is in training at the moment pounding the pavements(getting fit to do some more photo's for me hopefully)

well folks, had a walk around a spot where small barbs have been garthing for 10 years and did not see one!
the river looks sterile and barren.
not even small roach!,nothing!!,maybe they have been eaten.

the otterspoll stretch always used to be free. Used to be good chub water, never heard of a barb there........

Looks like the stretch I discussed is leased to Boxmoor Angling - see here :-

Hello Dave

I have been crawling through the bankside nettles after some nice carp.

No time for buzzers. Not time for overnighters. Been freeline and float for me.

Haven't managed to find a real biggie yet, but several mid-teens and yesterday a 19lb 12oz mirror. On a 15ft carbonactive and centrepin. Lovely tussle.

Yes Dave , hold barbel , and have been given a size , but like it to be reliable , and not a rumor , but they are there for sure .

Paul , I know what you mean , a river I fish has some designer swims , cover , weed , and the "right " type of flow !!!. Nope , not there , but 30 yds downstream , with a bloody noisey factory backing onto a non discript bit , they love...

Other words spring to mind, but then this is a family site.

Colne Rule No.1 - The lovelier and fishier a spot looks, the greater the certainty that it doesn't hold barbel and never has done since circa 1895. Walk past the spot and find somewhere with a car-door or similar in mid-stream; this spot will almost certainly hold a barbel or two, but do watch out for cat-sized rats and other denizens.
