Thanks Julian , i will stick with it then as it as i had plenty of confidence in it last season. As you say probably best to replace it a bit more frequently.

I use the same stuff plus I use Snyde as well. Both good lines...

Hi Matt, BS stretch at Topcliffe is a nice stretch with some good fish and friendly people, you also get your share of thin pickings. I've fished for four years now and have no regrets

Last year i used Kristonite mainline for the first season. However when ive checked it this year it is really curly when coming off the spool.
Do you need to replace it every year or with use will it improve? Has anyone had this problem?

Barbel seem to have finished spawning now and have quickly returned to the deeper holes / cover.
River is running very low and clear so maybe they didn't want to hang around in the shallows for too long.
Doesn't seem to bother the chub though who are noticably bigger this year - the mild winter maybe?

Will do Mike, I mentioned a few months back that I wanted to get on the Ouse and couldn't get off the Swale! It will have to wait until the new season but its on my list this year....

You're right though about numbers of anglers, quite often the lower river is busy on most stretches. I never fish any day ticket lengths of the Swale but even so the club water is busy. There are one or two exceptions and it is those areas where I have found solitude, and barbel. The upper...

Had a short session yesterday at cundal hall farm from 3 till 6. Had 1 knock while on phone to wife, dropped phone but tip didnt move any further. Tried curry flavour meat i had fish on last time, also new grubber pellets and paste but no fish. River looked around 4 feet up and temp 43f. Went down slightly towards end of session and so did temp. Only had 2 barbel this winter but its been good fun trying.

It is funny Julian . The Ouse does have a curious way of drawing you back despite it's relative difficulty as a barbel river , it has an air of mystery about it . The Swale is close to my home and a lovely river with a relatively high population of barbel . The thing that usually puts me off is that it is so well populated with anglers as well as barbel . Sometimes it's hard to get a swim , particularly on the lower reaches . I should take a leaf out of your book and travel a little...

Short session 1-5pm today lower Swale. NSL + 3'+ rose about 4" while I was there and water temp 5°C, well coloured. Lots of debris including the odd half a tree. Just one chub (again!) - oh well at least I did'nt blank. Nice to see and hear a curlew, skylark and long-tailed tits.

Interesting Mike that you should fish the Swale more often and me, I am still to fish the Ouse! I can't get off the Swale, thats my problem. I love it too much. Much the same as you on the Ouse.....

Nice fish Bryce, an end of season beauty. Now I'm going before others make me jealous of their catches, good luck to anyone out there today.

Smashing fish Bryce , maybe the Robin brought you good luck . I am going to have to give this Swale a proper go , a few of my friends are merrily pulling out biggies from the Swale while I wrestle with my existential despair on fickle mother Ouse , a hard mistress , all the sweeter when you get one out though , maybe tomorrow....

Within reason, and it not escaping over the floodbanks I almost feel the more water, the better your chances. Good luck!!!

River: SL+3ft, coloured
Weather: Bright & breezy
Fish: 10-12 at about noon on flavoured meat
BotD: friendly robin
Only fished the 1 peg after the early bonus, but no further action. Another fish with the bottom corner of its caudel fin damaged
