regarding sweetcorn not being a selective bait, i would suggest that sweetcorn is in no way a less selective bait than pellets boilies pastes maggots or castors etc etc,
(had a few nice Roach last season on ledgered 16mm boiliee to a size6 hook)

I'm positive some barbel have never ever seen corn, and they don't spook from it on my local stretch as I have seen tucking in to it.

Advantage is that it's cheap and you can buy it just about anywhere.

Disadvantage is that all fish seem to like it.
