I certainly still find sweetcorn to be a good barbel bait. There's no bream where I fish, so don't get the problem. Ok still a few chub troubles, but generally, get the barbel searching for it and you're laughing.
I have a secret presentation method, but I'm not giving that away just yet <img...

So many books and articles from 15 years ago to today have told barbel anglers not to use corn as it spooks fish. Any bait overused will spook fish, just like pellets have started to on some rivers.

I'm positive some barbel have never ever seen corn, and they don't spook from it on my local stretch as I have seen tucking in to it.

Advantage is that it's cheap and you can buy it just about anywhere.

Disadvantage is that all fish seem to like it. To avoid all the...

One of those really good natural baits that will catch fish anywhere, possibly the most potent attractor going, even on a par with pellets! Its only downside is that every species loves it, if you want to avoid bream this is deffinately not the answer. If you can sight fish a really good freelining/trotting bait, caught a lot of barbel using it, and if your lucky enough to have a virgin/unfished bit of river, first choice for me everytime!
