This is a plain and simple request for polite and intelligent imformation\opinions regarding the rig I intend to start off with when I finally get back on the bank. I've read with interest a great deal of the threads regarding main lines and terminal tackle but being an ex matchman I just can't shake off the habits of a lifetime, namely, fish as fine and simple as possible. Matchmen fish for any bite, barbelmen fish for barbel bites and need to be as selective as possible i.e. your after one...

I'm loathed to throw it away because it's a full bottle but on the other hand I want this mix to be just right. Should i ditch the bottle and get a new one or do you think it will still be ok to use ? Many thanks

Hi all,
I almost always fish with what I would describe as a big bait.
Be that a boilie, a large pellet, 1/4- 1/2 tin of meat or a large paste bait.
But I do feel that at times I might be missing out on fish due the size of the bait.
I think the main reason (probably incorrectly) is that with rivers like the Lower Severn I feel that a small bait would be harder to find. Another think for me to consider is the nuisance Bream that can make using a small bait imposable.
When I'm after yours truely I use feeders 90% of the time and ledger the remaining 10%. In fact, to be honest, floats and rivers seem to be a mine-field to me.

Hi everyone,

This isn't really a question that will change to way I fish, more one that I've wondered about for a while now.

Does anyone know how barbel (of any large course fish) are able to hoover up beds of small particles like ground bait without swallowing gallons of water? Or do they just swallow the water with the food and excrete it later?
Might be a stupid question....
