It seems to me that those on here who really do know their onions have become lethargic, probably due to the fact that it's considered that most topics have been coverd and are in the archives. Maybe its because members fear that if they offer some thoughts someone will...

Any one offer some help on location at this time of year. I understand the fish move to deeper water; why is this as water temp should be consistant through out the river therefore why would they move to deeper water? I could understand that using up less energy in cold water against the current would be advantageous, but what about sheltered areas in the shallows where they can be holed up out of the flow. Should I rethink location in winter completely or just look for the more sheltered...

With this mornings frost, its getting to that time of the year when i often think about Zander or Pike. I'll only fish for barbel if conditions are right, ie milder spells or flood. Do you all persevere or do you also think about targeting other species. I find that trips for other species in freezing weather also gives me a break from barbel, so that when i go back to them i have renewed enthusiasm.
