Has anyone read this article in this months CAT??

Thought that it was a fantastic read and i learnt alot from it, though there was one bit that let me thinking.

Terry says that when he is fishing selectively for a big fish among smaller ones, when the smaller barbs pick up the bait he allows them to move off with it andd spit it out. I just thought though, that if a barb picked a bait up and felt no resistance, surely it would keep hold of it and lead to deephooking??
...

Does anyone know of any recent catches of Barbel from the Dee in Cheshire?
I know it used to hold fish until a big kill about five years back. There was a restocking programme which, I believe, included Barbel but I've no idea if anyone fishes the river seriously anymore.
The river is handy for me, so any information would be gratefully received.
Small barbel are often as difficult to catch, as the bigger ones.
My smallest barbel was approximatley 3oz caught on the river blythe, about 7 years ago.
Has anybody had one smaller?????
I know this is wildly off topic (no Barbel in this river!), but does anybody know the Mimram? A friend walks his dog alongside it and reckons there's Trout and Chub just begging to be caught (he's a non-angler so they could well be Minnows and tiny Perch!).. He also believes that a lot of it may be free fishing..?
Any info gratefully received..
