Well 2 months into the season and I can say that I am actually happy with the landing net handle I aquired off Trefor West at the BS AGM.
It has dealt with everything thrown at it and it thrown at admirably.
I know there are a few of you out there looking for a landing net handle so this could be the answer for you.
I'll do a full review during the Closed Season when I have had a chance to abuse it some more.

Last night between 7:30 and 9:30 I managed to catch two Barbel from the Queensfield farm stretch on the Bristol Avon.
I took photos but didn't weigh them as it was the first time I have fished for them on my own and the adrenalin was pumping and I was a bit all over the place so I wanted to make sure they were ok and get them back into the water as soon as I could, I am pleased to say they both swam off very strongly.
Reading the other day on Jims (Bewdley) post relating to hair-rigs and what length to place the bait from the hook. Found some of the points relating to foul-hooking barbel quite interesting.
Have recently caught a barbel, which clearly showed signs of having been foul-hooked on the underside of the mouth prior to myself having caught it.
As you can see from the picture the wound was quite new and rather nasty looking, this left me with a strange feeling rather pleased with myself...

how do you attach pellet to hair?

i'm starting to favour a mono slip knot arrangement, as they seldom seem to pinch the bait then.
any thoughts? pro's and cons of each?

While getting some gear from my car and having a quick natter to Bob this afternoon we heard a cry from Rayo down in the river. Thinking I might have a fish on (Ray was watching over my rod) I dashed down to the bank only to find Ray gloating over a jack pike of about 2lb he'd just banked. Nothing special in itself I know but he did manage to catch it on caster with no sign of a dace in sight. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/roll.gif...

This river runs less than 400 yards from my home in west Leeds and looks like it would make a great barbel river but as far as I am aware there are no whiskers in it. I was thinking about this last night as it must be the only major river in Yorkshire not to have some barbel in it. Everyone knows the Wharfe, Swale, Nidd, Ure and Ouse are major barbel rivers but even the Hull, Calder and Don (was this once the most polluted river in Europe?) now have barbel in them as a result of EA stockings....
